Xbox 360 Console Not Reading Discs
Hey, when I insert one of my Xbox 360 Games, it says "Reading..." then 5 seconds later it says "Open Tray.." I don't know what to do with my Xbox System.

- I have the same issue and xbox support just said my console is 3 months out of warranty and it will require $99 bucks for them to fix, the upside is that they will put another one year warranty on the machine. I am so PO I cant see straight and so ticked about my 3rd Xbox going down.- GuestSolution #2

this could mean your laser is on its way out, but it could also mean it needs cleaning. the best way to
clean is to strip the machine down. strip the dvd drive down and get a cotton earbud.
spit on the earbud and very gently wipe the laser eye clockwise but dont press on too hard, very gently.
also get a clean paintbrush and give the drive casings a good clean.
this might help. there is also something else you can try and thats something called asjusting the 'pots',
this is a bit complicated for anyone not used to the process but i do have a guide if you want to have a
go yourself. what this does is adjust the laser power so its a full again just like it was when you first
bought it. (thats the easy explanation).

If you have the disc reading error it is caused by the receptors on the back of the Xbox 360 overheating.
You need to get this fixed, you can do this by fixing it yourself or sending it in.

Same here, I can usually get it to work by blowing some can air into disk slot. No clue why that helps, just thinking the head may have dust,etc. on it. Not a long term solution though, because it keeps doing it.

i have that same problem to and i dont know why my xbox wont read the disk but sometimes when i get lucky it will read the disk its like something is loose in my xbox 360. when i get lucky and my xbox reads the disk it makes little clicky noises like something is loose.

My 360 will load all of my other games and I am able to play them except for Far Cry 2. I put the disk in and it says reading for a short time period, but won't start the game.

My xbox wont read the dics it will say reading then stop then it will say open tray, it worked a little while after then when i turned it off and a little later turned it back on it does it again

I am having the very same problem with my xbox 360. It will act as if it is reading the disk and just go to "Open Tray". anyone out there now of a fix or where to get one fixed without sending back to microsoft?

This started with Far Cry 2. I put the disc in and close the tray. It says its reading, makes some funny noises and then says open tray. If i go through this process for half an hour to an hour it eventually works. It plays some games fine(Guitar Hero 3) but has the same problem with some dvds. It played Wanted fine but didnt like Step Brothers. Whats the deal?
