Yes! you can use that CD on any computer you wish. but only one machine. you can't install the same thing on another machine. unless the first machine is dead. in you case go ahead and install it.

You maybe able to get a copy from your friendly computer shop or on EBay. Make sure you also get the Windows installation code with the Windows XP Pro CD.

Not seeing new hard disk or reading XP cd-rom

It can use any 31/2" IDE hard drive. 30 Gb should be OK
If the BIOS cannot detect the hard drive or the CD drive then the drives maybe faulty or the disk controller in the computer is faulty.

HP d220m will not boot from hard drive, have tried several but nothing happens.

Hello, can it be your cd or cd rom that is the problem? I sugggest that you try with a other cd rom and make a copy of your cd and try to install from the new one. Plz post your exact error here.

HP nc6230 freezes shen loading Windows XP Pro

Try booting from your Optical Drive. First insert your Windows XP Pro CD into the drive. Do not re-install the operqating system or you will lose all your files and programs! When prompted press 'R' to use the Recovery Console. You should be able to write a new boot sector to your hard drive.

If this doesn't solve the problem, you might need to re-install the operating system. If you can find a way to save all your files from your drive (perhaps by putting your drive in an external USB caddy and viewing its contents on a different computer).

If all else fails get a new hard drive and start again with your WIndows XP Pro CD. Use an external 2.5" USB caddy afterwards to get your documents and files back off your old disk. You will need to re-install your programs, though. If your disk is Service Pack 3 you should be able to get straight back on the internet via a wireless connection to update all your drivers from hp's website.

I bought a used ibm r40, changed the hard dsrive and tryed to load xp pro. after loading the system files the computer wants to reboot to finalise. After this it goes right back to fresh install start.

When you say you tried to load XP Pro, did the hard drive already have XP installed or are you installing it fresh from a CD? If you are installing it fresh from the CD and it is asking you to reboot, it seems as if you are letting it try to boot again from the CD. When it reboots and says "Press any key to boot from CD..." don't press anything, just let it boot. It should finalize the installation there!

Hope that helps!
