Question about Symbol LS2208 Handheld
Think what you are doing: scanning a barcode or key-entering an item number, and then pressing F5, key-entering weight and hitting Enter. Right? Your scanner integrated with your keyboard. Make the scanner work for you.
Look closely at barcode of scale printed label, there are two parts: item number and weight or price (price is not good for POS, you have to make your scale to print weight). First part always starts from 200 next three digits are programmable PLU from the scale (I programmed 301 for Dutch cheese), enter 200301 as an UPC for Dutch cheese into QB POS (I am using 6.0 version) QB POS will represent it as 0020100000304 it’s OK. Use the same POS item number and PLU of your scale in case you need edit an item.
My barcode scanner is Symbol LS-2208 (most of Symbols will behave same) Download small program 123Scan from Motorola or Symbol website. This program has almost no help, but after several tries you will figure out how to program ADF rules (scanners manual also helpful). All you need just a few steps in one rule: recognize barcode from the scale which always starts from 200, then send first 6 digits as UPC, then send function key F5, then send next 4 digits as weight, and send Enter. (the above is a solution taken from a post on the net)
If I do the above how does the scanner differentiate between the digital scale from the barcode and other items that I scan in a retail store?
You would need to add an criteria or the rule, like barcode length or type. Than is the the scanner able to understand which barcode should be handled by the specific rule.
