Question about Philips Televison & Video

1 Answer

We have a problem with the remote not working until the 20" LCD TV has "warmed up". This usually happens after about 15 minutes.

Thanks for the response but the TV set is not a projection TV it's a straight 20 inch LCD TV.

  • barnetm Dec 08, 2008

Yes thanks I will investigate those suggestions. The problem is intermittent. Sometimes the remote works immediately but more often not. Thanks

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Your described problem could be caused by either of two (2) possibilities:

  • one or more of the TV's front panel buttons are stuck; or
  • the internal power supply of the TV for the iR receiver is acting up. Likely a lower than usual voltage )probably a filter capacitor) or even a loose connection/cold solder issue.
Please try to verify that none of the front buttons are stuck. An internal check of the electronics is required. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.
If the above solution has merit, pls click on my "Ask Me" to explore additional options, postback how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Appreciate the post back and update.

The initial response would still hold true.

    • one or more of the TV's front panel buttons are stuck; or

receiver is acting up. Likely a lower than usual voltage )probably a
filter capacitor) or even a loose connection/cold solder issue. This then wouold require electronics repair.
Most likely suspect would be a failing capacitor along the B+ rail of the logic/controller circuitry.

    Cheers.

Glad to be of assistance and appreciate the rating too.

Incidentally, it is also possible that the remote simply needs fresh batteries or that the battery terminals of the remote control are corroded and would need a good cleaning/scraping. In some instances, it wold also help to slightly bend or stretched that they exert a bit more force/pressure towards the battery.

Along with your problem statement and request, it would have helped if you provided the brand. make and model of your TV as it need not generic to all TVs. I would start at looking for known errors against the brand.

LCT TV picture blurry with black smudges until it warms up

No easy way short of monitoring with a scope and or voltmeter, based on age of set I would first "look" at all the filter caps in the main power supply--bad ones when they get hot can regain some function:

My dish network remote has an issue it take me 10 mins to get the remote to change chanels i have to keep pressing the button for allmost 10 minutes before it well work the remote has fresh batteries

drackul69, I am unsure what type of TV you have, but some LCD TV's generate heat while they power on and a remote on IR will not work until the TV warms which can take 5-20 minutes. If you have a LCD TV that may be a cause for the problem. If so a UHF remote for TV1 will fix that.

Cant get sky remote to work on easy-touch tv

I work for Sky. Ive been trying to find the code for you. There are several ways you can do this.

If i could get a picture of what the volume bar on the television looks like, this is one indication to what manufactor made the television.

The other way you can do yourself. Note this will does take some time.

TV
red + select
TV
POWER

repeat the TV , POWER until it turns you tv off. Then press SELECT to save.

The steps I mentioned above. what this is doing is going through all the remote codes on the remote itself. Hense you not inputting any numbers.
As I mentioned it can take 15 - 20 minutes depending on luck. if you get the code early on or not.

Hope this works for you.

Extremely long warm up time 25 minutes. ok once it comes on.

Just a shot in the dark- I think your main projection lamp is going bad- If the set is more than a year or 2 old it can happen. Unfortunately they are a little expensive.
How is the brightness level after it warms up??
