Question about Washing Machines

Plastic Mountings Let Loose - Hole in back of washer

My Frigidaire Washer GLTF1670AS was purchased on July 14, 2002. IIt lasted a little over 6 years. It developed a squeal so we bought a new belt. When we went to install the new belt, we found the machine was leaking because the plastic mounting bolts had broken and there was a hole in the back of the machine in the approximate size of a fist. This machine was never abused - it was used for the needs of a husband and wife - maybe four loads a week. We understand there have been many problems with the front loading Frigidaire washers. One doesn't expect a machine with such limited use to have to be trashed but it is apparent it can't be fixed. Guess your design engineers goofed on this model.

I have a 2008 John Deere Z425 zero turn that i bought used last year. Hydraulic Drive belt is squealing when starting from stop or going up slight grades and doesn't pull good.

v belts -- and am assuming that is what you have -- have to in position just proud of the edge of the pulley to work well
if the back of the belt is below the edge of the pulley it is worn or the pulleys are worn
the belts come in different cross sections and a smaller belt in section in a wider pulley will run on the bottom of the pulley and will slip and squeal just like you describe
belts come in "V" section , "A" section and "B" sections

My Frigidaire Crown top loading washer (M#-CRWS5700ASO) makes a frightening squealing noise on spinning. How to tell if it's a bearing or a belt? If a bearing, tell me about replacing it. Than

Good Morning Steve Wilkes, thank you for your post!

Based off the information you have provided your Frigidaire washer is squealing and making a loud noise while it is spinning. I understand that you would like to know how to locate if the bearing is bad or the belt. Unfortunately there are no instructions to provide you to locate which part could be faulty. Since it could be either one of these issues I would recommend contacting a professional technician to have a diagnosis to be completed this will help to avoid any unnecessary part purchases. Hopefully this information is helpful. -Matt

Washer has squealing sound and burning rubber odor

Yes, its basically in need of a overhaul, which the parts involved, basket drive/clutch and gearcase are all wearing out, I've seen this happen many times and cause the squeal/spin cycle and then in time to slow then stop spinning altogether.

From the parts diagram it said this model was made in 1998. The only time I have changed these parts on a model this old is when the customer purchased a service contract when it was new and kept paying on the contact year after year, thus the repair was free to them, but most of the time its NOT practical to keep paying on a service contact for up to 10 years unless you have heavy/extreme, daily/many times of day use of the washer, usually for large families living in the same household.

Here's the list of parts I always change for this issue, now some members and techs. could possibly change just the basket drive/clutch assembly or just the clutch alone and it may work for another 6 months or year and a half, but I found when I used to change the parts separately I had to go back to change the other parts within 6-18 months.

My 1998 kitchenaid clothes washer, model no. kaws750g squeals for 20 seconds or so at the beginning of the spin cycle. It still gets the water out of the clothes o.k. Could it be a belt or bearings? Thanks

Belt of bearing is a good call; I usually lean toward the belt, especially if it hasn't been replaced in a while. Like on a car, when a belt becomes worn, it develops slick spots that tend to slip before they grab, causing a squeal. It's a common repair and although your washer is 13 years old, that's still pretty young as far as washing machines go.

My washer squeals during spin cycle model frigidaire fex831cso. Sometimes it does it on the highest speed it reaches other times at slow speeds. One thing that is constant is... once it starts squealing...

The belt on my was the culpret. The washer belt has a spring loaded idler. Unplug power and move the idler off of the belt and use a spring hook or longnose vice grips to pull spring out of slot and into the next slot closser to you. There are 5 slotts. Push idler back by hand and put belt back on it. Your done. The transmission just spins as a unit in spin cycle, it does sit on top of a bearing, but that didn't seem to be the problem. If the belt tension doesn't fix it, put some grease and oil in the bearing or replace it.
Eventually you will need a new belt so order one now.

Spider arm to the washer drum is broken. Parts is expensive and labor to repairs will cost you more than if you just go out and buy a new washer. Sorry for the bad news.

Frigidaire ftf630as0 Front-Load Washer TUB DOESN'T WASH OR SPIN

How old is your machine? Mine was doing the same thing. After doing some research online (and a visit from a Sears technician), I found out that the bearings died on on the drum. The Sears technician told us it was a combination of the type of soap being used (non HE), and the amount of soap being used per load that contributed to the unit's failure. I wish someone had explained that to us 7 years ago when we bought the machine. Appearently there are enzymes in the soap that will eat away at the rubber washer that protects the bearings. There are less of these enzymes in HE laundry soap, thats why it's recomended for front loading machines.I think the HE soap will still eventually cause this machine to fail, but it would take a little longer than 7 years (maybe 10 or 12). By then it's probably time to by a new machine anyways. We bought a new machine because it would cost over $500 CND to get the old one fixed. We ended up with a Frigidaire Affinity (FAFW3577KN).

Have to change cycle manually

Reason? There shouldn't be one. Seems you're extraordinarily unlucky with timers. Mine's 10yo, never broke. The timer is a standalone part, it's not dependent on any other parts for its longevity. So there can't be any other parts in the washer 'killing' it.

Are you handling it gently? Turn it slowly when setting, don't whip it around.
