I have a Canon SD 790 and have tried everything to get the red eye reduction function to work. Problem is, I don't have my manual and can't find it in the 227 page download! I have looked through the tools...

Red eye reduction doesn't work that well on cameras. You would be better off importing your photos into a program like Picasa and fixing the red eyes there. Picasa's red eye removal is one of the best out there and very simple to use.

What you could also try is diffusing the flash somewhat. Put a piece of tissue paper over your flash is one way to do it. Or try bouncing the light from the flash off the ceiling with a piece of card (I've even used a piece of torn paper plate to do this)

Taking pictures without using the eye piece.

The XS does not have the feature of using the display screen for composition/preview of images like the smaller compact digital cameras. You will have to use the eyepiece like a standard SLR.

VEIWFINDER IS BLURRY CANNOT SE OBJECTS CLEARLY

At the bottom of the eye piece there is a little slider than you can move up and down to adjust the focus. That should fix your problem if not then you are not looking into the eye piece close enough make sure your eye is pressed up against the little rubber pad and then adjust the focus.

Veiw finder(eye piece ) out of focus pictures are fine

Use the diopter adjustment to refocus the viewfinder to your eye.

Point the camera at a sign or something with writing on and half press the shutter button to focus then move the little adjuster at the top right of the viewfinder until the image in the veiwfinder is in focus

View finder in samsung VP- W90 very blurred. Focus not the problem.

If the focus is blurred on the view finder, assuming you are talking about the eye piece and not the lcd, then it is a out of focus issue. Even though when you view it it's ok. Some cameras still have a focus knob somewhere to focus the eye piece.

I have lines on the image when I look thru the eye piece

which camera is it, is the eye piece a lcd screen or optical?

if the pictures come out ok on the PC it sounds like a faulty screen, If the camera is still under warranty it should be covered if not unless its an expensive camera its probably best to live with it as a repair would be quite pricey

if the pictures have lines on when displayed on the PC its a main board or CCD fault, both expensive.

Kodak EasyShare Z612 Digital Eye piece

you have to take off the back plastic part of the camera carefully. I snapped it off carefully. Then you take off 2 black screws at the eye piece and insert the rubber. screw back together. snap plastic back on and screw in all the screws. have fun!

Bundled Eye Piece Cover

The Eye Piece Cover is the cover that attaches to the viewfinder. The eye piece cover prevents light from entering the viewfinder when shooting with your eye away from the viewfinder.
