Question about Hitachi 43FDX01B TV

Picture and sound drop out

Both the picture and sound "black out" for a second or two at a time. This occurs usually when there are bright flashes on the screen. So a movie with explosions or special effects or cameras flashing can cause it to happen quite often. Watch something low key like the news or the program guide and it never happens. The TV has a great picture and is worth repairing, though at 6-7 years old is not worth dropping $500 or so on. So I'm wondering if anyone has a clue what I may be getting into here. It also happens more often in HD (you can adjust the signal from the satellite box). Thanks!

It was suggested that I was losing signal, that it was the satellite or wires, not the TV. This has been going on for some time, through two different different satellite boxes and different wiring configurations. I don't have HDMI, so have hooked up as both component and S-video, currently component.

Removing the lamp was simple. once out you will notice on either side are two small mesh screens. One of mine was 80% blocked with dust, the other side was only 30-40% covered. I used a vacuum to remove the blockage, i did not want the dust and dirt to go inside the bulb. i then cleaned all around the lamp. Reinstalled, and we are go to go. The kids are happy and i am happier since my wife not be buying a new TV.

This sounds like you are losing signal because you are losing sound and picture. It has something to do with your satellite not the TV

if you are losing audio and video at the same time it has to be the board is going out or a loss of signal. It can take a while to go all the way out. It is basically trying to turn it's self off when it flashes like that. Bright pictures are overloading it more. Soon it will happen more frequent. Take it in with a print out of these solutions.

Bush LCD32TV005HD picture flashing on and off 4 to 5 times per second. Sound is fine. Feint clicking sound as the picture flashes on and off

These flashes, otherwise known as blinks, are sign of fault inside the TV. By the number of flashes occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside the TV. Count the number of flashes at one time switch ON carefully for at least two times, and make sure about it. For more information, check the link http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Screen gives bright red flash--sounds goes off and picture goes to black. stand-by button flashes multiple times.... help!!

That is either the tube or a short circuit video driver semiconductor.
If it is intermittant, I would go for tube and prepair to purchase a replacement TV.
Sorry

At first it was lots of horizontal lines over the screen, and later TV screen went completely black. The sound still is perfect. Perhaps I just need to replace the fuse? I love this TV! Thanks...

Hello
You have stated that your TV has a lot of horizontal lines before it went off picture. We say that lines as retrace lines. So many of them will there on the entire screen, at about one inch or so apart, horizontaly scattered along with picuture. At that time, you may be unable to down the brightness control also. Even though you have reduced the brightness control to zero position, there will be some brightness level on the screen. You should have to repair that fault at the begining. There is a voltage going to the picture tube base, known as screen voltage. That voltage determine the emission of the picture tube, and we call it a bias voltage. When it goes higher than normal, this trouble ie retrace lines will occur. In long run it may spoil the picture tube itself. I don't know what the case of yours.
Anyway it is best for you to consult an experience technician in this case. Ok.

Sony Trinitron screen flashing

The picture tube is starting to fail. The increased screen voltage allows it to stabilize at the expense of color quality. Sorry to say, but it is time for a replacement.

Sony kv35s66: No picture, just sound and red blinking

This should be a quick fix. Try resoldering the vertical IC. This is a small flat IC attached to a heat sink with about 11 pins. It should be marked LA7837 or something similar. That should resolve the problem.

Keep us posted.

Jar-Head, bad news, the picture tube has a mild short in the green cathode, tech can come out and try to restore it but it`s usually a futile attempt on sony tubes, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, BMW Rider

Sound and no picture

Hi, if your getting half a picture AND the other half is black the vertical circuit is failing, either solder is broken or vertical IC needs to be replaced, not a pricey fix, BMW Rider

Sony kv35s66: No picture, just sound and red blinking

The most common problem (I have fixed lots) is the Vertical amplifier has developed a loose connection. It probably just needs resoldering. As things expand it makes and looses connection you picture goes in and out. The vertical chip is a large black chip that gets hot, over time it degrades the solder until a connection is damaged. Most newer sets have a protection circuit that senses the lack of height, and shuts down the picture tube to save it. When the picture dropped to a line on older TVs and left that way too long it would burn a line into the face of the picture tube. You then had to have the picture tube replaced along with the vertical amp. it's kinda like a screensaver for your TV.
