Question about Brother MFC 210C All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

Brothers MFC 5440CN says near empty yellow & magenta with new ink

Brothers MFC 5440CN has error message "near empty yellow" then "near empty Magenta", immediately after I replaced the ink cartridges. It said 'near empty yellow" before the replacement. Color printing all comes out as green and orange. I reinstalled the cartridges [Brothers brand], cleaned, aligned, still acted the same. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program, still the same. Then it quit printing at all. I used 'Repair" and restarted the printer. Now it will print from 'WORD' or other applications but the color still prints in yellow and green stripes and the same error messages are on the printer screen.
I hope you can help me with this.
Thanks in advance.

SOURCE: Brother MFC-5440CN wont feed 2 colors of ink, Yellow and Magenta and also says

This may be due to the fact that you have not removed correctly the small label that seals the air input to the cartridge. Normally on brother cartridges it's on the back or on the top of the colored label. Please check that. If no air is allowed in then your ink will not be provided thus generating your problem.

Changed yellow ink to new cartridge. Printer won't recognize.

I contacted the Brother site, the support function there. Pursuant to what I found there, I unplugged the printer for ten seconds and replugged. The message display then told me that cyan was empty, and that magenta was near empty.

I installed a new cartridge in place of the empty cyan, and that fixed it.

Wont print with all new ink cartridges

If the error message is only "magenta/cyan low", it doesn't cause any error. The low message stays after replacing ink cartridges if they're replaced too early (before they're indicated as actually empty), it doesn't cause the printer to not work.
However, some other problem might be faulty, or there might be another error message. Try emptying printer queue and print from Ink Management -> Menu/set (twice) to check wether the problem is with communication from pc or if the printer actually is unable to print.

If you have used generic ink the head is clogged and cant be cleaned anymore.

Last chance is to use original brother ink which has cleaning fluids within the ink. Run the cleaning procedure twice and simply print 10 PAGES afterwards. Wait A DAY AND TRY TO PRINT IN MAG AGAIN:

If there will be no mag. the ph is definitley clogged and needs replacement.

Ensure that you are replacing the cartridge with a Brother LC41M ("M" denotes magenta) cartridge instead of replacing it with a "knockoff" (third-party equivalent) or refilling the cartridge. Some third-party inks -- found in many knockoffs and ink refill kits -- do not work well with their intended cartridges and/or print heads. I discovered this the hard way, and then verified it with representatives of HP, Canon and EPSON.

If you have tried two or more actual LC41M cartridges and still receive the Near Empty error message, your unit might need service. Contact Brother Customer Service for further troubleshooting -- see page i of the Users Manual. (Opening the Users Manual with this link requires a PDF viewer such as Acrobat Reader or Foxit Reader.)

Printer will not print black.

Try removing the magenta completely and shut the lid then open again then insert the new magenta and see if the ink device level on the PC shows full. Sounds like the system needs resetting. Alternatively change the magenta and power on and off the printer and see if this resets it.
