I just finished fixing my Samsung 193p LCD with similar problem. The problem was a black/blank screen as if it was off. But if you are going to use a bright flash light there was data in it. So I suspect it was the inverter.
Procedures made.
1. Disconnect the power adapter and the D-sub cable.
2. Remove the small philip screws at the back of the LCD and remove the cover.
3. Remove 4 philip screws.
4. Disconnect the 2 data cables.
5. Openning the white cover is tricky. Use a flat screw driver and press it at the bottom middle part and use a credit card and pry from the middle part going to left or right side.
6. Remove the philip screws (black) around the LCD.
7. Remove the 4 philip screws and 4 at the middle part.
8. Be careful removing the switch cable. It is very fragile one of the 4 wires might come out (I did but fix it).
9. The Inverter board is at the left side. Take and remove the 4 inverter cables and the white wide cable.
10. This is another tricky part. Near the white cable there is a FUSE (brown in color). Check if it is open. If yes, You can use 2 think wires and solder on both ends. (Be careful the size of the fuse is soooo small like a half grain of rice). Or if you have a car fuse you can also use it.
11. Resolder the 6 terminals of the each transformer. There are 2 transformer so 12 terminals in all.
12. Assemble the parts back and you are done.

Good Luck. Happy fixing.

My monitor will not come out of sleep mode from the "moon" button or standby mode although the computer will.

It does the same when attached to another PC?
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/

Hi there,

Yes i do agree with you there is no problem with a graphic card, and i suspected it to be a problem with the cable which is used for connecting but it was fine when you swapped the monitors however i would still suspect on the slot where the cable is connected, may be you should try samsung service center before you decide.

Post back for more solutions we will be happy to help you.
Hope this helps.

I have a Samsung 19" model 923NW monitor. This is my 2nd of this model that has gone bad on me. I decided to pull the second one appart and noticed that the back light lamps are burned. One side is burned...

I would recommend replacing the monitor if the back lights are going bad. Chances are that it's not the back light that is the problem. It's like replacing a light bulb on a bad circuit. If you replace the bulb it will work for a while, but it will probably go bad again. I would simply invest in a Viewsonic monitor. You will get a better quality product as well as a better warranty.

When monitor power button is pressed, a small white image appears and alternates briefly between an alalog and digital icon in black then the screen goes blank, no color.

My issue is similar.. however after trying a couple of times it will work. (yes everything is plugged in) It will function for a good 10 minutes before just powering off (blackout) screen.
If you attempt to turn it on after it blacking out, the blue led for the power button will blink a couple of times and it will remain off.
However if you wait 5-10 minutes and turn it back on, it will repeat itself...

I have it hooked up to a radeon X1650 graphics controller as a secondary digital controller, and its hooked up by VGA cable.

I also have two other displays besides this one (one primary and extended that dont have any issues whatsoever.. they continue to function while the syncmaster 193p takes its time snoozing.... please help.
