Question about Western Digital Passport WDXML800UE (WDXML800UETE) 80 GB Hard Drive

WD Passport drive unmounts itself when connected

Western Digital Passport USB drive loses connection. I have tried new USB cables, some USB cables work better than others none are perfect. It continues to drop the connection. The drive is on my desk and stable. The cables is not loose. Is it a problem with the drive or do I need a special cable?

Look up how to remove the drive from the enclosure on you-tube
it is easy and safe.
one of the removal videos also shows how to remove the USB-SATA adabter (it is really a sata drive). The removal is easy.. just pull it off.
You then have SATA ports.. just plug the drive into your computer through a SATA port and then you can access your data.
It is most likely the USB adapter that is broken (they break easily).
IDK if you can find a new one.

When i connect my passport the computer recognizes it,but then it ejects itself form my computer. sometimes the start screen appears, then it ejects itself. please help

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- you can buy a new W.D. device, through the W.D. web-site, at a significant discount.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Why wont my Western Digital WD Passport 250GB Portable Drive 250 GB Hard Drive work?

Several possibilities:

* bad USB port in your computer (try another USB port)
* messed-up copy of Windows (try connecting to a different computer)
* damaged USB cable between computer and the Passport (replace it)
* bad disk-drive inside the enclosure (replace it)
* bad USB-to-disk-drive adapter (buy a new "empty" enclosure)

Check the warranty on it, to see if W.D. will replace it, at minimal cost to you. If the warranty has expired, W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- buy a new Passport through their web-site, and you qualify for a discount on your purchase.

PC nor reading external WD (Western Digital) USB hard drive

Try connecting it to another computer, to see if your computer is the problem.

Try a different USB cable between the unit and your computer.

If it is still under warranty (one year?) then contact W.D. to get an RMA (Return Materials Authorization) -- then, ship the unit to them, for repair/replacement.

If the warranty has expired, open the case, disconnect the USB-to-disk-drive adapter, and connect the disk-drive as a "slave" drive in some desktop computer, to see if it can be properly "detected".

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- give them the serial-number from the disk-drive, and you get a good discount on the purchase of a new Passport from their web-site.

My computer does not recognize my WD external drive

You've tried different USB cables; so, that cannot be the problem.

You've tried connecting to different computers; so, the problem is _not_ your computer.

What's left is "inside" the case:
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter,
* the disk-drive.

Open the case, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" drive to some computer.
If it is detected, then the USB-to-disk-drive adapter that has failed.
If it not detected, then the disk-drive itself has failed.

FInd the serial-number on the Western Digital disk-drive, and enter it onto Western Digital's web-site, on the "check-warranty" page. If it's older than 3 years, the warranty probably has expired, unless you were "lucky" and got a 5-year warranty.

Western Digital has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- just buy a new Passport through their web-site, and cite the serial-number, and you'll get a significant discount on _their_ price (could be higher than your local retail computer-store) for a new (probably larger) Passport.
