Question about HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook
I have a HP DV1000 laptop computer with the following problem:
The laptop works fine when both power supply and battery are connected, or even power supply with no battery. It wont work tho with just battery.
When the battery is connected alone the machine powers up to post and then dies / goes off within seconds. I have tried a new working battery and get the same issue again.
When it is on via power supply i have used HP tools to test the battery and this shows it as working and charging which leads me to believe that the connections between the battery and motherboard are fine.
I've tried to release static in the notebook and can only think of a motherboard issue but have been told that a new motherboard was tested and had the same results.
Any help appreciated.
It is possible you have two dud batteries. Recharageable batteries have a limited life, they have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles.
With the battery removed and only the power supply connected and the laptop powered up, when you touch the connector on the laptop and the laptop does not shut down then the laptop connector is OK.
If you can verify your new battery is OK the the fault could be the power supply adapter, if may not produce enought current to run and charge the battery. Try charging the battery overnight by turning off the laptop and leaving on the mains t charge. Borrow a mains adapter and test it on your computer.
You can also check the BIOS setting for power management, ie. hibernate, low power shut down etc.
