Cleaning and care for my GE Profile stovetop

I have a GE Profile gas 5 burner stove top in ivory porceline with bisque burners...I'm having trouble cleaning the black off the burners...even after just boiling water...what can I use to make them look new again?

    I have a GE profile stovetop in black. I have had water boil over and now can not get it to come off also I don't want to scrub for fear of leaving scratch marks so how do I clean it? I have only tried soap and water

    I have a GE Profile gas stovetop. We have been bottling apricots, and there is a lot of juice burned onto the inside of the burners. The burners are not removeable, so I can't soak them. I have tried soaking them with a wet cloth, scrubbing with Scotch Brite pads, and SOS pads. Nothing gets the burnt-on black stuff off. Please help.

The one thing I don't suggest is using the Ceramabryte product the dealer left with us. It leaves a greasy film. When I get ready to clean my black GE Profile, I pull off the controls to wash separately. Then I lift off the grates, take a single-edge razor blade to scrape anything stuck on (it doesn't scratch), then I use baking soda and scrub and scrub with lots of paper towels. Then I start cleaning off the baking soda with lots and lots more paper towels. There is still a film, but at least it's not greasy. At this point I grab some more dry paper towels, pour on a 3' puddle of rubbing alcohol and wipe it all over the stove top and front. You may have to do this twice. Then, if I don't turn on the hood light's brightest setting, it really doesn't look too bad. I have to do this at least once a week, as I have never had a stove that got so dirty so fast and was such a pain to clean.

FYI, I would never buy another of these stoves. Besides the cleaning issue, there is the fact of having to replace the igniter (glow plug?) twice in the first four years. My old, bottom-of-the line Magic Chef went 25 years with the first replacement not coming until it was about 15 years old. Also, the broiler is unimpressive and steaks, etc., just sort of steam. Can't get a really good crust going. It's a slide-in and the top is very narrow, front to back, because of the slanted control panel on the front, and so you really can't put two large pots or pans on one side. Let's see....oh yes, I ordered the unglazed grates for safety reasons and it came with the procelain glaze. Those were replaced free of charge, though I had to go pick them up. Then the first set of unglazed grates began to rust about six months into use, so had to be replaced (again, no charge at least). Recently I noticed that the inside walls of the oven, where the racks slide, are starting to rust. Finally, the burners are difficult to calibrate, which I really notice when I try to cook rice, which comes out right about 50% of the time.

Now, on top of all this, I have to worry about the glass door exploding?!?! Should I ban my grandchildren from the kitchen? Has anyone from Consumer Reports seen this website?

Have you tried to soak them in white vinegar overnight, it will clean the grease off the burner do NOT mix with bleach it will create a poisonous gas... also for the tough stains use bake soda clean them off... let me know how it works for you..

Bisque grills aqnd covers cannot be cleaned so they look clean. I don't know what to try on them to accomplish this. I have to try to clean the burners every time I use the stove. What is the solution? Do I need to buy new grates to use when "company" comes? I've had GE Profile applianes before, but never needed to clean grates before since I have always had an electric stove until I bought this one. Please HELP!!

For the GE XL44 model, where would i find the pilot light? the stove is not working


There is not pilot light on the stove top since the burner is activated by a spark generate by high voltage to a small ceramic disk with a wire protruding from it by the burner.
You have the have AC Power to the stove and you should hear a clicking when you slightly turn on the burner. Once the burner is on fire then turn the burner control to the desired temperature. If the burner will not light after 4 seconds of clicking sounds turn the burner control off and make sure the round gas diffuser on top of the burner is correctly seated on the burner. It should lock in place and is removable for daily cleaning of the stove. Now try the burner control again in the light position for no more than four seconds to see if it lights.
Do you smell gas? Do you hear clicking when slightly turning the burner knob? If yes to both the stove is working and the top of the burner is not seated correctly. If no on either or both you may have a stove, electrical or gas problem.

Soak the black stove caps in 1 part ammonia and 3 parts water. Let soak for several hours. I let it soak overnight. It should clean right up.

Lower oven burner will not light.


Hi I have a older GE that the oven won't light. It is a gas range that is electric ignited. The top burners do work but the oven will not light. Is it pricey to have this fixed?

Burner won't light


Take the pot support and the burner cover off and clean all the slots out with a toothpick. Carbon builds up over time and the gas doesn't flow over the spark. Do not light until fully reassembled.

GE cooktop has porceline "popping" off literally.


Porceline (a coating over metal in this case) is actually a type of glass, and subject to fracture upon sudden thermal shock or physical stress. The part you indicate is WB62T10124 for a JGB939C1WW probably a bit over $150 or a WB62T10132 for a JGP939C2WW, probably a bit over $100, but the labor to replace it would be costly. Ge spectra gas stove top not lighting


If your top burners are not lighting or will not work, it is possible that the burners have become dirty or wet. Please follow the troubleshooting directions below before calling service:
  1. Turn you burner to the Lite position:

    If you hear clicking or sparking, go to Step 2.

    If you do not, check your circuit breakers. If the circuit breaker is ok, we recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

  2. Clean the burner and electrode:

    First remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Use a needle or paper clip to poke through the holes on the burner head. Re-assemble and try the burner.

    Remove the burner grate, cap, and head. Even if it looks clean, wipe the tip of the electrode with a clean, dry paper towel and PRESS IT DOWN. Re-assemble and try the burner, again.

    Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 3.

  3. Re-assemble - Make sure that each burner top matches its burner bottom. The burner top will lay flat if put on correctly.

    Check to see if the burner works, If not, then go to Step 4.

  4. The spark igniter is operating properly, but the burner is still not lighting. At this point, we would recommend that you schedule service by calling 1-800-432-2737 or schedule service online.

How to clean?


The best cleaner I've found was from my Oreck store. It's called Stone Countertop Cleaner. It works!! It might leave a little glaze but after I spray, let set for a couple a minutes and wipe off, then go back over it with a clean paper towel after it dries, it looks as good as new.

no gas flow sounds like a bad gas regulato on the stove. as for the 5 year old ge profile with ignitors not working, you need a part called a spark modual

GE XL44 Gas Stove


Hi I have a GE X44 gas stove. The 4 top burners work just fine, but the oven no longer turns on. I don't see the blue flame inside the oven. Is it safe to relight the pilot light?????
