You can try going to manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware update. You can try uninstalling a reinstalling the application/drivers for the device as well.

Unable to push Sony Optiarc AD-7585H to write at 1x

You're not "pushing" with 1x speed, that's the slowest speed at which a burner will burn at. You can change the write speed in the burning software settings.

Hello leslaw176,
Your problem in your burning of DVD will be solve by just using other burning application like Nero DVD burner (which is the most stable and user-friendly software) software and by lowering your burning speed. There's an drop down menu before you burn you DVD which tells you what speed will be using try 16x in DVD. Its better to write normally than writing in full burst.

May my solution may solve your problem.

Thanks for using Fixya...;-)

Check that the writable DVDs you are using are compatible (+/-) with your Sony DVD-RAM.
Go to Windows Explorer and check to see if the Sony drive is visible. It may not be connected or the Jumper switch may be set incorrectly.
Check you have drivers installed, take a look in Hardware manager.
Sometimes, it's a little difficult to copy CDs and DVDs when you have more than one burning suite installed - for some reason, they 'just don't get along'. Try uninstalling any suites other than Nero.
Or it may just be that your Sony CD-RW drive is just that, and your DVD-RW drive is just that. So it wouldn't be possible to write DVDs on the CD-RW and CDs on the DVD-RW? Though I would assume Nero would detect that and use your hard-drive as temporary storage.
In Nero SmartStart, have you selected the CD or DVD tab to correspond to the project you're burning?

run the nero drive speed first before burning in your files, if your cd in a RW or rewritable, just erase it and burn again the data's that you want.

DVD - Slow burning speeds

Unlikely that there is a problem with the drive itself, most likely cause is software settings - which burning software are you using? if it is nero 6 then once you click burn after arranging the files for burning, the burn info page should pop up. click on the burn tab and make sure that "determine maximum speed" is checked and that write speed is set to maximum. hopefully this should solve it, if not try setting write speed to one of the slower settings listed and see if you get a better result. Sometimes dvd drives can slow right down when you are trying to push them to go at maximum. if you want to check what it should be able to do, try also worth trying is updating the drivers to make sure you have the most recent version. Another thing worth trying if you haven't already is try a different brand or type of disc - just occasionally there can be clashes with certain types and burners - if this seems to solve it, don't throw your pack of discs away, give them to someone with a different burner. The final possibility is a power supply problem. If your PC's power supply unit has spare connectors for a drive then try a different one - possibly your supply doesn't have enough guts to run a more modern drive - take the drive out and try it in another pc with a higher power supply wattage rating. Hope this helps :)
