Yesterday I learned I needed a "wired or wireless adapter" to install my brand new wrt54gs router. Today the cd informs me "the linksys easylink advisor setup wizard cannot run over a wireless connection" What should I do?
Do you have a wireless adapter..Linksys? If you have a wireless Linksys router, then get the wireless adapter that plugs into the back of your comp in a USB port.. Download information from the CD that is included..Go into your base unit(Linksys router). Configure it according to CD instructions. You should be up and running.Remember..When it asks for a password and username..Leave username blank and default password is "admin".You can always change password and username later for your protection. Type in 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 to access router base information in your address bar.
Just remember to download the CD for the router first ..Then download the CD for the adapter before plugging the adapter into a designated USB port.. The CD will advise you when to insert the adapter into a port.. Pretty self explanatory.. Good luck with that !!!

For that right click on my computer icon then click on property then hardware-<device manager. Then you can see all driver list click on network adapter and enable it. You can configure your router without disk too.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Click on WAN settings and set those settings as your internet service provider settings. Enable DHCP if you want to get ip from router. Click on wireless settings enable wireless then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router. Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
Make sure to install the USB adapter's driver and utility. If it's installed, you need to use the Belkin WLAN Utility to connect to the wireless network. You should be able to find the signla coming the router and you can connect to it
The problem here is that the WRT54GS is an old model, so naturally the installation CD is also old. This is especially a problem if you are running Vista. I ran into the same problem when I was installing my wireless card; my computer would detect it on boot up, but when I installed the drivers from the CD, it said the card wasn't plugged in.
The solution would be to download the lastest installation and driver files from the LinkSys website and use those instead of the installation CD that came with it. You may have to hunt for it, as some companies would rather push new products than update older ones, but since the router is still on the market, they should have the updated drivers and installation files.
