Question about KitchenAid KHMS155LSS 1000 Watts Microwave Oven

1 Answer

My kitchenaid microwave has started making a strange noise when I open and close the door. It sounds like paper or aluminum foil (?) or something is in the door when I close it (moreso than when opening it).Have you ever heard of anything like this? I can't see anything and haven't had a chance for my husband to look at it. Thanks!

Thank you--we figured it out--the piece on the top part of the microwave somehow broke and slipped down---when the door was opened/closed it would make this swooshing noise. My husband and son both realized what it was and my husband glued/rigged it for now. I am sure we will eventually have to replace that part. My husband was going to go online and look at parts but wanted to try this first. Thanks so much!

I would carefully inspect the door handle, inner door surface area, latches, and the face of the chassis where it meets the door.

Very good.

You may have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove to get at the parts that need to be replaced.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Makes random beeping noises all hours of the day & night. Annoying but wondering if something is wrong or if there is something we can do to stop it? Works fine otherwise!

I have never heard of that happening before. I think you need to ask Kitchenaid direct. Once the machine is off and dead, it should stay quiet until you press a button or open the door.

My LG microwave will not shut off. When not in cooking mode and I close the door, the light stays on, it makes a light humming noise and the center plate continues turning

All microwave ovens have microswitches to confirm door open/closed. Many have several, and a bad switch can cause all sorts of strange issues. My ovens have 4 such switches, and I've had several go bad. You have to open the oven up to see which you need, measure them, and replace the bad ones. The good news is that the switches aren't expensive.

Why won't my interior microwave light turn off and my microwave won't start?

It sounds to me that your door switches aren't working.Your oven is protected by a couple of switches that engage when you open or close the door. They control a couple of safety features and also your interior light. One of them seems defective.

Lights on, timer going, but not heating, no whirring sound & turntable not turning

KITCHENAID are a budget make despite what you paid. it is better to buy a company that specialises in microwave ovens rather that a company that buys cheaply made products in China or Taiwan and badges them. As you know KitchinAid is a company that does all sorts of kitchen gadgets and utensils. Toshiba and Panasonic are the brand leaders. GE are long established.

The problem with yours sounds like a safety interlock problem. Every microwave has about 4 safety switches attached to the door so that it is impossible for the unit to be run with the door open. They are small micro-switches that are adjusted like a hair trigger so that as soon as the door moves, power cuts. If it is the switch, it is a cheap fix, if it is the Magnetron, it isn't, so diagnosis is needed by a reputable company. You can't take it apart as they use security screws because of the dangers of cooking yourself and the high voltages in the capacitor, and poisonous Beryllium in the magnetron. Your call on fixing or buying new.

Loud noise when cooking

I had an arcing sound coming from above the cardboard panel inside the microwave. When I saw it sparking I took the cover off and saw that these two aluminum looking things had come loose. I removed the cover and did a fair bit of 'fine tuning' to get it working again.

Popping sound coming from my panasonic NNCD997S

The following works better if done in "low light".

Put a cup of water or small bowl in the unit, close the door and turn the microwave on.

If there is anything that you can see in the cooking area, there should be sparking and it is coming from something metal, even a small piece of aluminum foil that was left behind. The thing causing the sparking needs to be removed.

If you hear the noise and it is coming from inside the area of the microwave that you cannot see then you can:

1 - Take it to a repair shop.
2 - Depending upon the cost for repair, consider buying a replacement.

If the noise is inside the machine DO NOT CONTINUE TO USE IT. Get it FIXED OR REPLACED for your own safety.

Good Luck

Hole in plastic on inside of door

check the conductivity of the plastic with an ohmmeter by placing the probes an inch apart on the plastic surface. If the resistance is large or infinity, the plastic probably performs no role in stopping the microwave radiation. If so, any epoxy probably can be used to close the hole safely. Make sure you don't use too much and if possible place tape over the repair and orient the microwave so the epoxy presses against the tape while drying to prevent it from oozing into any door hinge/close mechanism. Otherwise, a piece of microwave door glass from a broken unit can ge glued over the hole and should stop the radiation. You can check for leakage with test units but be very carefuly anyway.

GE Microwave Model JES735

Yes, the fan blade is hitting something inside.Usually by opening the microwave, you can slide or reposition the plastic fan blade on the shaft.Probably this happened in shipping to the store where you bought it.CAUTON:make sure the unit is unplugged before you attempt this.Other option is return for replacement.
