Question about Audio Technica AT-PL50 Turntable

1 Answer

Audio Technica AT-PL50 will not function.

Purchased over 2+ years ago and left in box. Recently the unit was unpacked and set-up. It will not function. No turntable rotation. No activity. Past one (1) year guarantee, so cannot return to vendor. Any suggestions as to what to look for?

Most likely it's a 120vac motor. Get the bottom off and look for where power comes in somewhere on or around the base of the tonearm will be an actuator switch. unplugged, set the meter for ohms and operate the switch by moving the tone arm. You may have to use clip leads to get a free hand. The switch should read 0 ohms when the tonearm is moved. If not, you've got a bad switch.
While you are in there look around for anything that may have come loose or unplugged. Also, with it plugged in you should read somewhere between 110-120Volts ac between neutral and the motor side of the switch, when actuated. BE CAREFUL 110v can be lethal, or at the very least cause an unpleasant experience. Good luck

I have an Audio-Technica turntable (AT-PL50). I recently moved and when I hooked my turntable back up, the sound is terrible. It sounds distorted, similar to the sound of blown-out speakers. But, I checked...

it sounds like your cartridge is shot and damaged.
this turntable has fixed cartridge and only the stylus can be changed.

My audio-technica PL50 plays 45s at the wrong speed.

believe it or not not it probably doesn`t even play your lp`s at the right speed? Its probably because your drive belt has actually stretched? rubber belts do wear and maybe seek out a replacement drive belt?

try this company?

Try pushing the button on the far right. I had this same problem last night before I released the button was in the wrong position. It is called the "Lift" button and when depressed it lifts the needle up from the record- or keeps it raised and never lets it come down.

Replacing the stylus

Go to esupport.sony.com and type in your turntable model, PS LX250H. The "H" is important. Available is the complete manual, and a separate publication just on removing the stylus and setting EQ. Basically, swing the protector bar down over the needle, and snap the entire (mine is beige) unit down from the tone arm, then pull forward. I'm still shopping for the replacement, frankly.
