Mamiya 645 af focus problem

Every so often when getting the developed film back the centre of the photo is slightly out of focus. It seems to be a random occurance as the shots either side are usually perfect. This is useing the 80mm af lens. Is this a lens problem or camera one? Anyone had similar problems?
Thanks Andy

    Thanks Spotatohead

The lens is ok. It seems to be a problem with the film not laying flat behind the lens. It seems to appear when the camera hasn't be used for an hour or so and on the frame that winds on after the shot has been taken. Is this a comon problem with the Mamiya AF camera.

    Cheers Andt

Look at the rear glass of the 80mm lens? Any marks/fingerprints in the centre? If so, that might be causing it. Marks become more pronounced on film when the mark is on the rear glass closer to the film plane.

SOURCE: aperture diaphram on mamiya secor lens 80mm f/2.8

The lens has a lever marked A/M near the aperture ring. If the lever is in the 'A' position, the lens will stay wide open until you trip the control lever at the back of the lens next to the rear optics. In the 'M' setting, you can see the aperture move as you change the f-stop setting on the ring. Set the lens to anything but wide open and move the control lever with your finger. You should see that aperture move.

SOURCE: Mamiya 645 AF back won't advance film.

The battery in the film back is only used to supply power when the back is off the camera, when it is on the body power is supplied by the six batteries in the body so try them and also make sure the film insert is properly seated.

SOURCE: I have a Mamiya 645

Hi karlsenpaata,

I would suggest you to shoot some photos reset the settings and then remove the battery of the camera for at least half an hour , then put the battery back again and then the problem would be resolved.
Hope this helps ..:)

SOURCE: I bought a second hand Mamiya 645 Af but as soon

From the manual:
"If the error display is not canceled when the shutter release button is pressed again, insert the Dark slide, half-press the shutter release button while pressing the roll film holder's manual film advance button to wind up the film, then contact your nearest Mamiya agent or service center."

Not something you can do your self as it involves removing the case. Would be useful to have it serviced cleaned and calibrated. Nice camera, I have a Bronica ETR 645.

Mamiya 645- broken mirror stop.

If you find a source, do share. I am looking for the shutter stop to be fixed on my Mamiya 645 Pro TL as well. I saw someone online made one out of metal himself... seems like the way to go, but lot of effort.

Hello! I have a problem with the back of mamiya 645 AF....since few days, it doesnt work well....sometimes I have no problem, but otherwise sometimes the lcd screen of the back doesnt turn on....or if it...

Sounds like either a battery issue, or an issue with electronics. I'd first try checking/cleaning any electronic contacts between the body and the back. If that doesn't help, if you have access to another back try that to see if the issue is in the back or in the body (or both?). If that doesn't narrow it down, send the whole kit in to a service center or take it in to a local tech if you have one.

My Mamiya C330 Pro only gives me 4 photos per roll

A few things to consider:
-Loading: Make sure you are not over loading the film before you start to shoot. I have sometimes turned the film advance too many times and end up cutting down on the amount of usable film.
-Are you loading the film in a dark area and careful to close up the back just after it has started to load to avoid exposing it?
-Shooting: Are you metering properly when shooting? Obviously underexposed images won't develop. You should consider a hand held meter.
-Shooting: Are you advancing the film more than it needs to be after you take your shot? Watch the film counter and feel for that click as it hits the next frame. I have advanced past the next shot many times by accident.
Hope that helps, Matt

Mamiya 645 pro shutter doesn't fire

First thing that comes to mind on this camera is that it's a modular camera. This means the film back can be changed mid roll so there is what is called a Dark Slide between the film back and the body.

The dark slide needs to be removed before the camera will function. Also depending on how "new" the film back is there may be a dark slide holder/sleeve on the back side of the film back.

So you remove the dark slide and slide is into the holder so first you don't loose it and also it doesn't get bent.

Mamiya M645j film counter not advancing to start when roll loaded

It's a common problem in the 645 - if you want to do it yourself, without a permanent fix, put a DROP ( not a lot ) of lighter fluid, or rubbing alcohol on the tip of a fine screwdriver and apply it to the gear you use to rewind the camera, and turn back and forth a few times. If that doesn't loosen it, it'll have to be disassembled.

Wind / shutter issue (2nd try to post)

It sounds like there is a problem with the frame counter in the film back itself. Try operating the camera with the back removed and on multi-exp to check the shutter functions.

Shutter stays open on mamiya 645 M

Get any crud from the battery out of the works with pH-neutral stuff and q-tips or lint-free towels, and see if it works (without film; might as well check current drain with a bench supply instead of a battery, too) once you've done a satisfactory job of that.  Then visit a shop so they can see if the shutter timing is tolerable...and perhaps sometime you can load film in again.
