Any camera repair guy can repair these. A store that specifically sells digital camera can repair these cameras easily. This is actually a common problem for this camera and its cousin, the m437.

I have been tinkering with theses cameras. The lens for the m537 (and m437 (same parts except the for the LCD)) can be removed and repaired manually. Since I am a amateur, my success rate is about 50%. It all depends on how jammed the lens. If anyone has good technique in manually repair these, I would like to know.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

The lens will not retract. It seems to try, but

Sorry, but there is no safe DIY fix for the lens problem, and any attempt at homebrew repair will probably make things worse. Your camera needs professional repair, so I suggest that you take it to a local camera shop (NOT the camera department at a large store) or contact Kodak customer service via their web site (www.Kodak.com) to arrange repairs. Be sure to get a firm price before you commit to any repair though, as the fix may approach the cost of a new camera, and repairs typically only carry a 30-day warranty. Also, Kodak may offer you a trade in instead of repair. Check camera prices before you jump at their offer. You can often pick up a new camera on eBay or on sale somewhere else for less than the Kodak offer.

Lens stuck in the extended position

i don't think the lens mechanism can be repaired, it may need to be replaced, usually for about 50% of what you bought the camera for. there is a company in new york that carries parts for small digital consumer cameras like this : Camera Repair NYC

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html
