So if I understand you correctly, you are experiencing a video lag behind the audio when you burn DVD's directly from .avi and .mpeg files, using Nero 6? software. This appears to be a common problem, and there are enough complaints out there associated with Nero, though some users report an audio lag instead.
In any event, I suspect it's related to your burn speed, and it could just be a function of the Nero application engine working a little out of sink, at a high rate.
For best results, try burning at no more than 4x. If you burn faster, even at 8x, you're more likely to encounter audio problems, and any problems that are inherent to the software will be exaggerated by a faster burn, it seems.
You might wish to try Img Burn. It comes pretty highly recommended by those in the know. Plus it's free. http://www.imgburn.com/
Other folks prefer AVS Video Converter, http://www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-Converter.aspx?type=GoogleAdWordsContent&gclid=CN7b04PhwZkCFRxNagodFBUXuQ
I also found another link, a little dated, that I was tempted to quote in its entirety, because it's obvious this guy burns a lot of DVDs, but you may find his suggestions more to the point. See here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=172762 and scroll down to the post by dlb.
I know it's hard to part with software that you are familiar with, and already own. But there's some great burning engines out there these days, many of which are freeware or shareware, and most of which offer some kind of trial to check them out. Give them a road test and see how they handle. You'll know pretty quickly if they feel comfortable, or seem to be drawing you in...
Better to abandon something that isn't working than risk the wrath of newlyweds...
Good luck sorting it out, and let me know if this solves the problem.

Nero express 6

Yes, ImgBurn is free. It is actually rumored to be much better than Nero software.

Will using ImgBurn over Nero fix the problem? I don't know. However it's worth a shot and would help in the debugging process.

Home dvd player won't play a burned dvd

Not all burned DVDs are compatible with all home DVD players.

Some things to do to help compatibility:

1. Use only DVD+Rs.
2. Burn at a slower speed (4x or below).
3. Make sure the software you are using to burn the DVD creates a menu. Most DVD players won't be able to play a DVD unless there is a menu; usually you can tell the software to skip the menu if you want but it still must be encoded onto the DVD.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate this solution with a fixya rating. :c)

Why i can't play??

What format are you burning the disc in, NTSC or PAL? What format does your DVD player read? You may try tweaking that setting to see if that works.

Burn image file

Hey there jamesi23, begin with Nero start smart, open it and then choose application Nero Express. The Nero express screen which appears, has video/pictures on the left to choose. Click on it. Then choose DVD Video files on the right. The next screen gives you the Add feature to choose and select from the files on your computer which video VTS files it will burn. They will have to be in VTS or ISO image to be recognised. Choose your file, and open it. This will put it on the burn list for Nero express. Install the DVD blank media in the drive, and press burn when prompted. These are admittedly basic instructions, so if they are not clear enough, or you need further assisstance, please let me know. Good Luck!
