The Dell 4600 comes with a built in RJ45 connector on the motherboard, you don't need to fit another one unless you have a specific reason to. e.g. its stopped working, you want a giga speed card, you want a second card to create a firewall/dmz.

Here are the specs

You can buy a pci ethernet card and put it in a free pci slot. Install the driver and it should work.

I wish to upgrade my PC with windows 7

Depends on your Hardware.... if it is a slightly Older Computer then chances are it is a 32 Bit.... but if it is one to just a couple of years old... it COULD be a 64 Bit......
Regardless of if 32 or 54 Bit the Computer WILL run on 32 Bit Win 7.
and again regardless of 32 or 64 bit,.... 32 Bit Software SHOULD run on it without problems, but you may have to set it to "Compatibility Mode"
Good Luck

I installed 4 Gig of RAM memory but only 3.25 shows up.\r\nis there a test I can run to see if the memory cards are working correctly? Thanks. Paul

It sounds like you are running a 32 bit operating system XP, Vista, or Windows 7 (32).
The 32 bit Operating Systems are only able to see and use about 3Gb of RAM. To use a greater amount you will need a 64 bit OS (either Windows XP/64 or Windows 7/64) or one of the open source 64 bit operating systems.

I would like to buy a new dell but not sure how much memory i would need. I don't recall how much memory is in my previous dell. It is a dell dimension xp. Would you please let me know how many GB there...

With any new computer you should get 4 GB of memory, the more the better. There are two version of Windows you can get 32 or 64 bit. The 32 bit version of Windows has a 4 GB maximum on the memory, the 64 bit versions go much higher depending on the version you get. 4 GB will give most people more than enough to do what they need. To see how much memory you currently have just Right-Click on the My Computer icon and select properties. In the window that comes up you will see the memory you currently have.

I added 2 mb memory to my 2 mb dell dimension c521 but it only shows 3.25 mb memory on my desktop when it should be 4.00

This is normal. You need a 64bit Windows if you want to see a bit more. The graphics can take up quite a bit of memory space.

No you don't have to install a 64 bit OS. Only if you install over 3 gigs you MUST install a 64 bit operating system. 800MHZ is fine it will just back down to 667MHZ. your 32bit windows OS will see up to 3 gigs (minus graphics card memory). SO 2 gigs will work fine. Install one stick at a time and check in the OS and bios to make sure each stick works. I would say you possibly have a dead ram stick.

Vista RAM usage ?

The minimum recommended ram for Vista is 1 GB, generally accepted practical minimum is 2 GB. A 1 GB system will be kinda laggy. Maximum RAM for 32 bit Vista is 4 GB.

Vista Home Premium is roughly equivalent to Windows XP Media Center Edition (Has Media Center, cann't be put on a DOMAIN type network)

Vista Business is roughly equivalent to Windows XP Professional (Can Join a Domain, Doesn't have Media Center)

Vista Ultimate has all available freatures of Vista, you can do any windows function with Ultimate

32 bit RAM usage ?

Due to addressing limitations you will not be able to utilize all 4GB. You can remove the 32 bit OS and install a 64 bit OS if you want to, but I don't think it is needed. Your computer will run great and should recognize and use between 3 and 3.5 GB, possibly slightly more.

Want to kow how much ram I can add and where to buy it.

Hi

Dimension 2350 Series has two memory connectors and supports non-ECC PC2100 (266-MHz) DDR SDRAM memory modules. Supported memory capacities are 128, 256, or 512MB. The maximum (total) memory is 1GB.

Regarding where you could buy? I suppose you can check you local PC store. There is always eBay if you fancy.
