I've just had to replace the agitator on this kenmore model for the third time in 1 1/2 years. Even if it's kept relatively clean it seems to eventually stop working and seizes up. It cannot be fixed and has to be replaced at nearly $40. Is there a problem with this model? I didn't see it stay on the market for very long. I never had a problem with past Kenmore's.
Kenmore actually doesn't make very many of their own products. Typically their vacuums are privately labeled by Panasonic. I don't want to get into trouble for saying something bad, so I'll just say I wouldn't consider Panasonic a best buy anymore.
Next time you're ready to purchase, you might take a look at Miele Canisters. They are a German family owned business, and they have hands down the best vacuums on the market and outstanding customer service. Or you may considerRiccar which is an American company that has an awesome reputation for quality and customer service. Just something to think about.
