Question about Hayward Phantom Robot Cleaner without Booster Pump

1 Answer

Pool cleaner will not work

I purchased this pool cleaner 18 months ago and the first one had 29 warranty service calls before they replaced it with the new upgrade turbo model and then another 15 service warranty calls and it still does the same things, spins in circles, does not go to top ,gets all tangled up,and so forth they have put so many manifolds in these things that it is rediculous, within 24 hrs after they leave it starts doing the same thing, and they are the only ones to touch it,well now they say that they will not honor warranty since it has expired even though the original problems have never been taken care of,any thoughts, this is the phantom turbo pool cleaner, any thoughts

Sorry to hear the problem. As a service tech, I've had pretty good luck dealing with Hayward. I'd insist that they replace it. Don't talk to a tech on the phone, ask for a manager and tell them the problem. If they still give you grief tell them that you will make it your sworn duty to tell everyone you know about the kind of service you received. Lesson here is to be aware of the warranty period. All manufacturers and suppliers will hope that you don't and will stall you until the period expires. Sound slike they did a lot to try to help. Unfortunately, this vacuum is worthless. Haven't seen one that has performed the way it is supposed to yet. For you money The Pool Cleaner is a great value at just under $300. Have never had to do any repairs on this vacuum. Zodiac Baracudas are also a good value for slightly more. Only one moving part inside that needs replacing every year or so at $30. Look online as they almost always have a $50-$100 off coupon. Call the stores as well they usually have $5o-$100 off too.

Robokleen is now making very short back and forth motions not covering the entire pool as it did when first purchased

First, check the impeller for obstructions. Occasionally hair or linen may get caught in the impeller. With the transformer off, take the top grill off by removing the 2 screws from the top. If you see any debris caught, remove it and replace the grill and screws. Also, check the pool cleaners axle bearings and wheels for leaves or other debris that could be causing the wheels to catch. If you can solve the problem with either of these, you will probably have to have the cleaner services because it is going to be a mechanical issue and you will void your warranty if you open the electrical components of the cleaner.

Pump is not working. installed about 4 months ago. purchased pump 07/29/2010.

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the pump. Unfortunately there is no reset or other means of restoring your pump to operating condition. If the unit is out of warranty there is no cost effective means to get parts or to have it repaired.

You may be interested in knowing they warranty the pumps for 3 years.

any damage to that diaphram will cause the cleaner to not work. If it is only 6 months old then it is under warranty. any pool store should be able to get you a new diaphram at no cost. bring your paperwork with you to show proof of purchase.

One of the wheels fell off. is this covered by the warranty. Just bought 3-4 months ago. how do i fix it?

There is only a 1 year warranty on a Polaris 280 (5 year parts warranty on the frame itself)
If you are the original owner you will need to take it into a local service company, preferably the company you purchased it from.
Be sure to register the cleaner at:
http://www.polarispool.com/registerproduct.aspx
As far as fixing it, Depends on how and where it fell of from.Did the axle break or it just became loose.
If the problem is that the screws were just loose, you can take the top cover off and look inside. Each axle is held on with 2 screws. Simply screw them back in.
I hate to sound negative but, I doubt that is the problem. This sounds like a broken axle, or even a broken wheel.
Polaris is great with their Warranties, so have no fear in taking this in!
Thanks for the question! I hope I helped you as much as possible!

I have the exact same problem with my unit!

It is probably the motor unit and should still be under warranty if it is less than 2 years old. You can use our Dolphin service form at www.arrowpools.net or contact the manufacturer at www.maytronicsus.com for service information.
