Default router password is not working.

I am trying to forward ports on my 2wire router. The only problem is that it will not let me reset my router's password, as the one printed on the label is not working. I have tried to reset the router to the default factory settings and the label password has still not worked.

Are you sure you reset it ? Try holding the reset switch with power off and unplugged for a few seconds, then try resetting with power on.

  • If you do not remember your password, you can click "I Forgot My Password" on the login screen and the 2Wire will provide you with a password hint.
  • If you still do not remember, you can click on "I Still Don't Remember My Password" and the 2Wire will prompt you for the system key.
  • The system key is located on the side of the 2Wire HomePortal on a sticker and is a 10-digit number surrounded by brackets (ex: [1234567890]). It is located between the two barcodes on the sticker (see image below).
  • Once you enter the system key, the 2Wire will allow you to reset the password to anything you like.

If after your hint is shown to you, you still can't remember your password, there is a "I still can't remember my password" link that you can click to take you to a page to obtain a temporary password. To obtain a temporary password, you must call the support telephone number on the screen and provide the special code number that is generated by your HomePortal. The support representative will use this special code number to generate a temporary password. Once you have entered the temporary password, you can then change your password and enter an appropriate hint.

How to open port 5000 on 2wire gateway router

You will have to go to the routers web page and configure the port to be allowed to pass through. Go to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 one of those and type in your password for the access if you did not change this it will be by default admin for username and password is admin I just type in the username admin and it opens you may have to do both username and password as admin. Once there go to port configurations and add 5000 as the port and check on both options for access.

Hope this gives you some idea on how to do this because each router is different in their page setups I cannot tell you exactly what the port configurations are but this will get you closer and others may post with further information for you so keep checking on this post. Or read help files when you arrive at the router site they are there look for port forwarding that is what you will be doing. Thanks for using FixYa! John

2wire 2701 block port 80

Go to the following link. This is just an example on how to forward ports for limewire. Use the same steps to forward port 80.

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/2wire/2701HG-B/Limewire.htm

If it still doesnt work, try updading the firmware. In case this fails, then we have some issue with the router

Port forwarding won't allow individual apps

The 2wire HG is an old 2Wire, they've come out with several models since that one. It sounds like the firmware isnt working correctly. You can try resetting it to factory default. If you do that, hold the reset button down for at least 30 seconds. 2wires take a good 2-3 minutes to re-syncronize.

When you have solid green lights, open Internet Explorer and it will say page cant be displayed. Clean out the address bar up top where you normally type www stuff (and make sure its the address bar, not the seach bar so many people use). Type 172.16.0.1 to get into the router. Run the system setup wizzard on the right. When it asks you to put in a password, it means make one up. Then you need to click on run system set up wizzard again. The key code should already be in there and end in F2NV. Click next, set your time zone, click next, put in your userID and password, click next, after the reds dots, you should be online. Now go back in and try to open your ports. If they dont stay open this time, then you need to think about swapping the router out. The newest model is the 2701.

Need password for 2wire network

The best solution is to reset the router. The easiest way to do this is to find the reset button, usually on the back of the router there is a pin hole button. Use a pin or pencil to push the button.

Be warned, any special settings will be lost, but most installations of home network routers such as the 2Wire Router/Gateway is the default settings. If you have other than the default settings, then contact the person/organization that set up the 2Wire for you, such as your ISP/Internet provider.
