Question about Nikon Digital Cameras

Open Question

Have a Coolpix s60. Worked fine until the other day...when the camera is turned on everything works fine but the viewfinder. Instead of seeing the object it is pointed at the screen is black. All the touch controls on either side are visable and the telephoto and wide funtions work and it will take a pictre. Everything seems to work fine except that you cannot see what you are taking a photo of? The battery is fully charged.

SOURCE: Nikon E5700 digital camara.

There is a service advisory out for Nikon E5700.

t has come to our attention that in a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 3500, 4500, 5000, 5400, 5700 and SQ digital cameras, an electronic component may, in some instances, fail affecting your camera's performance and/or operability.

While only a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 3500, 4500, 5000, 5400, 5700 and SQ digital cameras are affected by this advisory, if your camera presents symptoms that can include (1) images with a strong color tint, (2) images that are totally black and/or (3) images with visible defects, Nikon will, upon confirmation that the problem is associated to this Service Advisory, service your camera free of charge.

If it looks like a crack, it is a crack. You may not feel it because the internal screen is protected by an outer screen. Pressure of some type is usually the cause of cracked screens. This is an expensive repair.

Viewfinder not coming on!

I found this "solution" on another site and it actually worked!
Turn the camera upside down. Now, with the device off, tap it a few times in your hand. Now, turn the device on in the viewfinder mode. Tap it again if the viewfinder isn't active.

Posibley Broken LCD?

Use the viewfinder to take pictures on vacation, then have your camera looked at in a camera shop or repair shop to assess the damage. Might be cheaper to just get a new camera sometimes with labour costs and parts costs these days, but doesn't hurt to get it looked at for free!
