Question about NAD T512 CD Player

Open Question

NAD T532 probem

I have just bought NAD T532 dvd player, but it does not play a lot of dvd disk. It ejects the disk and gives disk error.
Sometimes it plays same disk from 5-10 times, sometimes from 2-3rd time.
for example put 1 disk 10 times. 6 times got disk error.
DVD-R, DVD+R disk does not play at all.

It is strange that with cd there is no problems. It reads it 10 from 10 times.

SOURCE: Nad C542 Troubleshooting

This is an issue that has plagued the 541I and 542 models - some units worked fine and some units had similar issues as the ones you mentioned. It was suppsoedly fixed beginning with Serial Number G56C54224800 but I know someone who has a later serial number and had the same issue. It could be the laser or the transport or both. Simply put NAD has a quality control issue. There products still produce great sound but the great sound at a reasonable price is seemingly coming at great cost - the lack of consistent quality.

SOURCE: Won´t read any Disc

I have the same problem since the early beginning after purchase. I'm very upset with NAD for the zero-value technical service in Italy. After 2 months they gave me back my C541 with new defects (the tray now doesn't work properly). They have tried - they said - different optics without fixing the problem. Does anybody know if a compatible optic / tray exists?
Thank you

The tray belt raises the laser to proper focal length at the end of closing the drawer. This demands more grip from the belt. If the belt is sloppy, it will slip at this point, even though the drawer is shut. Took two years of repeatedly cleaning lasers to notice this.

SOURCE: My NAD cd-player has locked it self! I cannot play

Mine does the same. Press eject and give the front of the draw a sharp tap.. the draw should then open.
Also when loading a disk give the draw a hard shove closed just as it is almost shut - seems to make the disk read ok.
I think both problems are related to a worn / slack tray drive belt... I just haven't been able to find a replacement.

What is wrong with my CD player?

Great player. Although the manual does not say a thing about this error, I'll try.
I think you use normal CD's and not disks you or someone burned for you.
The only thing I can think of is the CD must be dirty to scratched.
Or if you try to play disks, burned in a PC, that could cause trouble too. Although all CD and DVD burners in a PC, can play these disks, not all CD players can. Only the ones where the manufacturer says the drive is compatible with CD-R and or CD-RW.
A normal CD has metal as a reflector and gives a clear image from the ones and zeros on the disk. CD-R and CD-RV only have a dye on which a laser has changed the colour. Not giving a clear distinction between ones and zeros. The better CD players, have a stable motor and so on, but the laser is not set up for the dye disks. And although sometimes a disk can be played, for the player it looks lie a "dirty" disk.
I hope this helps.
If not, perhaps you should clean the laser, with a special cleaning disk. DONT open the player and DONT touch the laser.

Selective playing of DVD's on Sharp DVD Recorder

Given that the machine will read disks it has written itself but not play regular discs, I suspect the lens assembly is slightly out of alignment and needs adjusting. This is not normally something you can do at home unless you have the correct test gear. It will need to go to a repair shop. One thing you can try before that is to clean the lens. Buy a quality (Scotch 3M, Philips ) cleaning disc and try it. Could be it's only a speck of dust on the lens.....

I just burend a audio cd but it wont play on my cd player

Hi,

Just a tip.
You can try to burn an CD at a lower speed.
So the index will be deeper and better readable for a normal CD-player.

Can't get a dvd to eject from from a Lexus cd player

basically just carefully insert another CD into the slot, but only about 1 to 2 inches of the disk and keep jiggling the disk around and pressing the eject button.

This was a suggestion for the lexus owners club wed site.
give it a try and if it doesnt work let me know and I will try to find something that does.

NAD 5100 monitor wont eject

Hi ntravers9

You could fix this yourself, in saying this of course, you will need to also source a new belt for the player ( I can help you there too) That is probably what is preventing the Cd tray from opening. If you where to remove the lid, and give the transport a little assistance in the direction that things initially start moving, then you can be sure that the mechanism is not damaged in any way, and that a lazy belt is the source of you problem.

Do this if you are into fixing it yourself, to see for sure what is happening and we can go from there.

The DVD player does not recognize disks that it used to play before.

It sounds like the DVD region (a setting in both your OS and your DVD hardware) may have been changed. DVD regions are the agreed upon method (by entertainment companies, hardware manufacturers and governments) to limit cross-border sharing of media. Most valid (read: non-pirated) DVDs have a region code. Your DVD drive will only play DVDs with a region code that matches the DVD region code set on the DVD drive.

You didn't mention your OS but if you are running Windows XP then go to Start->Control Panel->System->System->Hardward->Device Manager and find your DVD player. Right-click the DVD player and select Properties from the menu and you should see a properties dialog-box with a DVD region tab. This is where you can change the DVD region that your player will recognize. Be careful, don't play around here, most DVD players have an embedded limit on the number of times (4-or-so) the DVD region can be changed.

Hope this helps.
