Question about Maytag Refrigerators

I have just bought a brand new Maytag american fridge freezer but when my plumber fitted it he noticed the door on the freezer side doesnt shut properly and there is a gap all around the door. I contacted Maytags customer services dept as the product was only 10 days old they say that they cannot offer a replacement as all faults have to be reported within 7 days. Their only offer was to send a service engineer out to my appliance. The engineer came last week and didnt know how to take the door off and confessed he had never worked on this model before and so he ended up ringing for technical advice. He told me it would need a spare part ordering and told me they would contact me as soon as the part came into stock etc and arrange another visit. As christmas is coming and I need a freezer I rang today to find out exactly when this part would be fitted and was told it would be 6 - 8 weeks as it has got to be specially made at the factory!!!!! I am appalled that I have got to accept this service and solution on a brand new £1500 product that has never been used. Surely this is not acceptable? Can you advise me please? By the way I live in the UK so it is Maytag UK I have been dealing with. Thanks Sue

Under sale of goods act, appliance has to be fit for the purpose. exchange of a faulty new appliance is not automatic but repair has to be carried out within a reasonable time and the normal ruling of a reasonable time is 1 month.
demand a replacement from the retailer. if no joy, it is very easy to issue a writ under the small claims proceedure - you don't need a lawyer for this.

unplug the machine,open the fridge door,remove the plastic cover behind the control panel,then feel behind the control panel,you'll feel a slot,one on each side,you stick a screw driver into the slot and push,one at a time and it releases the cover on the control panel, you have to push hard so don't worry the plastic is strong,you'll see the jazz board and a sensor on the right side,just remove the wires and sensor install the new board and reconnect the wires and sensor,then read the instructions that came with the new board and it will tell you how to program it,hope this helps and good luck

ON THE REFRIG DOOR LOWER HINGE, CHECK THE CONDITION OF THE CAM UPPER AND LOWER HALVES. ALSO YOU SHOULDN'T SEE ANY BLACK MAGNET ON A DOOR SEAL UNLESS IT'S BAD.

Only one temperature control??


Good day,
Yes, they are made. The temperature in the fresh compartment will be no issue, since you have control in that compartment.
The engineers designed the balance between the two compartments so the freezer would be normal if the following conditions applied.
1. The room temperature is between 70 and 90 degrees.
2. The machine has normal usage. I.E. 8 to 20 door openings of the fresh food door.
The freezer would start getting warmer if the room temperature dropped much below 70 degrees. or..
If the machine had extremely light usage with very few
door openings, or a combination of both situations described above.

With dual controls, and both set at normal, the above conditions would occur anyway, except you could over ride the normal settings to compensate.

Many people have this setup, and experience little trouble, but without knowing your life style replacing it would be your choice based on the facts given.

Freezer side door opens when large refrgerator door is closed


no promblem when you shut one door it forces air to the other side remove the kick plate at the bottom adjust the rollers till the fridge leans back i set them so when you turn loose of the door slightly past the halfway position it shuts its self that way when it pops open it shuts its self

Fitting an integrated fridge freezer!


Hi Gareth. I fitted a door to my Hotpoint hsz2321L today. I used self tapping screws through the brackets into the fridge door sides. Looking at the old fridge that came out showed that this was the method used previously. No seal is broken and so the fridge is working perfectly. I do have an issue re-fitting the door onto the new fridge though. The pivot hinge on my fridge doesnt give enough clearance and so it catches on the unit at the side of it. The old fridge (a Bosch) cad cabinet hinges that would sort of concertina out to give clearence. Anyway, good luck.

This is no problem for you. You are under warranty and as long as you have not tryed to repair it yourself you are completely covered. Look for the manufacturer's warranty phone number on the paper work that came with it or call the sales man, he will be happy to track that down for you because he wants repeat business.
If you bought it used the only answer is to return it. You could get a local pro to repair it at yuor own expense but I wouldn't recomend that for a frige only 1.5 weeks old!

Maytag fridge


Without knowing the type of fridge(side by side, freezer on top etc.) all I can offer is this: Somewhere between the freezer and the fridge there's an opening thermostatically controlled to transfer cold air from freezer to the fridge. Most have a fan to move the air. So either the fan (if so equipped) stopped, and need to replace, or opening is stuck closed, or plugged.
If freezer is working fine, this is the only problem I can think of.
