I owned this same TV and this problem, it turned out to be a part called the convergence module, also a problem with the main circuit board, the parts alone where $600, then labor would have been even more, I bought a new LCD TV and been happy ever since, new TV cost little more than fixing the Tosiba, which by the way has a very poor service record, check out this on the net.

Hi You have the TV connected to the cable box with an HDMI cable, I'll bet. The problem is with the cable box. If you unplug the cable box and plug it back it it will reboot and proabably work. You should connect the cable box to the TV using component cables and you won't have this problem again.

    or
This is a problem with closed-captioning. What you are seeing is a closed captioning box with no captioning in it. Usually this is being accidentally transmitted by the cable company "head end". Just make sure your closed captioning function is completely turned off. if you are seeing it randomly, it may well be coming from your cable company. Is it just on certain channels?

This type of failure is due to a defective hyper board. This type of repair might not be a DIY without a basic knowledge of electronics and know how to use a de-soldering/soldering iron.

Does it do this on all the inputs? You will want to try different inputs and different cables, Even different jacks for example if your using composite try component or vice versa. Have you tried something else besides the dvd player? Like cable box or something else? It could be the dvd player if that is all you have tried. If problem persists you will need professional service.

Concaved shadow

this is because of the magnetic interference, you better isolate the TV from the devices producing heavy magnetic interferences like Speakers Microwave, Cellphones and Cordless phones. Then go the main menu in that you will find setup option , in the setup option go to the picture setup you will find option called degauss just click on that, the screen will flash for a second and everything will be alright. Frequent degaussing is not advisable as it reduce the life of the projection tube.

Zig zagged and flickering screen

The surface mount capacitors in a module called the Hyper Board have gone bad. The repair is fairly extensive in that the board must be desolderd from the chassis and then taken apart and all the electrolytic capacitors must be changed. The task is time consuming and not for a do-it-yourselfer. The average repair cost would run around $250.00.

f89e701.jpg
OK, OK ...That was funny
What do you meant by zigzag line? Do they look like what we would call herring bone. lines going sideways? Please let me know. If this is the case, I have never been able to solve that problem. I am very close with the tech over there at Samsung. We spent hours on this problem. We changed Complete main board. We also changed Power supply. The problem maybe coming off the Yoke or a somewhat defective picture tube.

Please post reply if someone did correct such problem

Best regards

Distorted picture

when you say distorded, is it like a 3-d effect? or more of zig zag type lines in the picture. If there are color outlines like a 3-d effect, then you are having a convergence preakdown, and are going to need to have the convergence IC's replaced. if the problem is the piture is zagged edges and zig zag, lines or a smearing effect, most likly it is the PIP modle is going bad, and even if you dont use the PIP, the video still goes through that module. If it does not have a PIP feature, then there are bad capacitors in the sweep power supply and the problem will get progessivly worse till the set wont come on anymore. Hope this helps. Good Luck
