Caller id will not show on the display.

Did you change carriers? A lot of the VoIP carriers like vonage and magic jack will only give you the telephone number on caller id, but not the name.

I have magic jack now and they call that "caller id", but having moved from a carrier that had name attachment i assumed all caller id's had name and phone number both...but not so

Caller ID does not display

CID needs 3 things, a subscription from your phone line provider, a phone to display it, and someone sending it.

If your generic phone is of the single line set variety and it has CID, then check with your provider. If it's a system phone, it may not have the proper equipment installed or not even be available in the phone system. Usually, even if the call is blocked by the sender, you will get a date and time and "unknown caller" or "out of area"
indication when a call comes in.

Caller ID

Since it appears by default, I'm guessing that the phone is not ringing. It has to ring to display CID. You need to make sure that it is part of an ICD group with Immediate ring.

How to set time & date on phone

If you subscribe to Caller Display services, the first incoming call will set your phone's date and time automatically. Otherwise, here is how you do it.
1. press Options 2. Press * three times The display shows "Enter time/date?"
You may set both time and date or you may set either of them separately

TO SET BOTH 1. Press # when the display shows "*=Next #=Enter" 2. Wait for each prompt. You will be asked to enter: - the time - am or pm - SAVE - the month - the day, and  - SAVE (Enter the hour, day, and month as two-digit numbers. For example, enter 02:15 for 2:15, 05 for May and 08 for the 8th of the month.)
TO SET ONLY THE DATE 1. Press # when the display shows "*=Next #=Enter" 2. Press * when the time appears 3. Enter the month and day when prompted. 4. Press SAVE
I have a question for you: Can you give me the specs of the AC adapter for this phone (usually written on the adapter)? 1. What is the OUTPUT in volts (V)? 2. What is the OUTPUT in milliamperes (mA)?
3. What is the polarity (i.e. is the + sign in the center of the jack or on the exterior)?
(The wall plug transformer has a diagram depicting two circles with the inner circle representing the center conductor. A line coming from the inner circle will show a minus (-) or a plus(+) symbol to let you know the polarity of the center conductor.)
Thanks!
