Tried removing battery and reinserting. No change. PC does not detect camera. Makes noises because lens will not move. Led reads hq 1033 CF, then goes blank. And then a beep, beep, beep sounds. And then LED goes blank.

Got the camera to transmit to the PC by hitting the base of the camera against my palm--this allowed the lens to come out. I think consulting a professional about the lens mechanism is a good idea; however, am in midst of a project and will get by improvising. Lens won't retrack into the camera without a slight slow push.

I am getting by with the suggestions from the solutions. Thanks. Sorry for the delay in responding.

"Lens won't retrack into the camera without a slight slow push."

That means that the lens are still defective, try blowing canned air on the lens joints.

A complete solution will be disassembling the lens and assembling them back, but this should be done by an experienced technician, unless you want to risk causing more damage.

If you want to keep the camera like this, and you are satisfied with the help given, you should check your past emails and accept the solution that had been more helpful, that in this case is probably benimur's one, since that was the most extensive one among the initial contributes given.

Be careful when you improvise though as the camera might be further damaged In any case as long as its a slight gentle push it wont be so bad

This is already a mechanical problem since the camera was drop, so it will be better if you can take this to a service center and have it repair there , to retrieve the data from it use a card reader.....

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I believe that you have two issues here:

  • memory card access;
  • stuck lens.
To address the memory card, pls try to use an external memory card reader and attach to a USB port of the computer. The lens retract issue might be more of a real concern. Due to the complexity of the gear and mechanism, it may be to your advantage to seek the services of a qualified professional. There are instances however when jarring the bottom of the camera such a hitting it against the palm or an open book would shock it back into action. But then again of course, it could worsen the condition.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Glad that my proposed solution pointed you to addressing/solving the issue albeit with a little help with the push. Perhaps you may want to reconsider the rating granted as this is the only way the corrective solutions get acknowledge. As you see it fit of course.

Hi, all of a sudden, my Canon Rebet XT gave me a faint flashing error 99 message. It won't turn off and the red light at the bottom right of the screen stays on even when I turn my camera off. I have to...

To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the following:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4.clean all lens contacts on lens and camera with a rubber eraser
5. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
6. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If it does, then the camera should be
serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most
likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.
If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.

These are steps to Fix Err 99's, have a go and see if resolves your other problem too.

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -
1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.

5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.

Dropped camera on wood floor, now it beeps when I press on but nothing happens. Telescopic lens does not close. Cannot see images or take pics.

Both of those are "lens errors". That's what happens when your lens has had damage done to it. The only way to fix it is to send it into repairs. Call repairs at 800-706-2534 option 2 and they can tell you where to send it.

??? These cameras take standard CF cards (and store images in standard JGP format) that can be 'read' directly by PC's with a multi-media card slot.

If your PC does not have a card slot, you can buy a USB CF Card Reader/Writer for a few dollars ..

PS always reformat the CF cards in the Camera not the PC ..

A Dropped Camara. Please Read

That is what casio calls a lens error. You will have to send it in and have it fixed. The cameras don't do well even when dropped from that short distance. Call repairs at 800-706-2534 and keep choosing option 1. Tell them that you talked to tech support already otherwise they will try and transfer you to their tech support.
