Using the printer utility, try to use the color adjustment option. You need to calibrate the color printing using the printer utility. If it doesn't work, try to update the driver. You must uninstall then reinstall the driver using updated one.

The color is not printing correctly. Things are coming out mostly pink or yellow. I tried the MAINTENANCE tab. The nozzle check showed that the top section (PGBK) looked good. The second section (C)...

The printhead has either become too clogged to flush out with with the internal cleaning operation (which uses a LOT of ink), OR, the nozzles are not firing. If after several cleaning operations there is still no significant improvement, you will need to replace the print head. I see this frequently with Canon and Epson, and Brother inkjet printers. Usually, it is due to leaving the printer idle for too long, or removing a cartridge and not replacing it right away. The air gets to the residual puddle of ink in the head and dries it.

You can find the replacement print head by Google searching "MP830 print head". Prices can vary from around $70 - $90. Changing it out is fairly simple. You only need to lift a lever that holds the head in place. Make certain that it is squarely seated, and then run a few pages of a color document, or do a couple of standard cleaning operations to "prime" the head.

Make sure the hed is NEW and not used or "refurbished". Here is one source on eBay that sells it for $78.00:

How to use canon pixma mp 210 How can i print using only black and not having the color ink cartridge in as well? is this possible, or must there always be a black cartridge and a color cartridge installed...

With respect to Canon MP210 color usage during greyscale printing: Unfortunately, with many of the newer inkjet printer models & printer drivers, printing in greyscale actually consumes more color ink than normal draft printing. If you wish to save on color ink, it is suggested to do one of the following as available in your specific printer driver/software:
-Print in Normal - Draft mode (or super draft if available), plain paper.
-Print in Black & White mode only* - Draft mode on plain paper (typically this is the best way to save on ink/printing costs).
-For internet page printing, print using CleanPrint (3rd party software for printing most internet-based content from all major internet browsers. NOTE: not affiliated with Inkjet411):http://www.formatdynamics.com/cleanprint-4-0/
-Keep printer on at all times; power up cycles typically consume large amounts of ink (per Consumer Reports, Aug 2013 issue).

    * Most printer models will still consume a small percentage of color ink due to normal ink/printer maintenance, such as between job 'spitting'. The purpose is to ensure the printhead is maintained to avoid clogging.

Regarding Canon PG-30 or CL-31 cartridge repurchase or ink cartridge refilling, if you unable to find a retail / refill store close to you and you are trying to cut ink costs, may we suggest you try a remanufactured ink cartridge from http://www.inkplicity.com/ as their ink cartridges typically have the lowest cost in the USA, have a high reliability rating, come with a 1-year warranty and provide free shipping for all orders above $20 (available to US residents only).

Here is a link to retail ink cartridge refill stores:

I want to use black ink only and stop wasting color ink

Hi,
Go to Control Panel->Printers. Then right click on your printer and select printing preferences. There you will see an option like Print in Grayscale or Black and White only.
However, please note that some printers although they are set to print in grayscale they also use the color cartridge and some even don't allow you to print in grayscale if the color cartridge is empty. Why is that? Manufacturer's way of charging you more money.

Do I have to install a color cartirdge (CL-41)?

Some will allow printing with just black & others will not. You may need to put a color cartridge in to print. Check your owners manual or canon website to make sure but if you do need a color cartridge you can buy a generic brand that works with your printer to save some $$. Hope this helps.
