Sony 400 Disc Changer Skips on CD's

I have a Sony Disc Changer that skip on some CD's. All CD's are clean, and I went to an authorized Sony Dealer in San Diego, and they said it was fine. It still skip on some CD's. Do know of a good Sony Repair Facility in San Diego? The unit is two years old, and I bought it from a friend who used it a lot.

Even if the CD's are clean, they can still be scratched. A scratch can not be cleaned and it can cause the CD player to skip. If this is the case, it is not the fault of the CD player. If the CD's are not scratched and still skip, then you do have a problem with the CD player. Most times it is the laser pick-up, but it can also be the spindle motor or even the DSP IC.

Is the skipping always on the same CD's? Do you have some CD's that never skip and others that always skip? If so then you have a few CD's that are just too scratched up to play properly. This happens sometimes and cleaning them will not help. Since this player is not under warranty, you can take it to any local repair shop for service. It does not need to go to a Sony repair shop. In fact, all Sony products of this type that are under warranty end up going to Mexico for repair. Sony no longer has any factory service centers in the US. They have places you can send your unit in the US, but they end up sending it to Mexico. Find a local repair shop and take it to them if you can determain that the player skips even when using a CD that has no scratches. Most minor scratches can be played thru by most CD players, but if a scratch is deep enough, it will skip.

Every CD skips. Seems to skip very badly at the beginning of each track and then about a third of the way through it will play normally. I have put the CD's in the correct way and have cleaned the dust...

The dust has probably got on the lens, which needs to be cleaned too. You can try a lens cleaning disc. But if that doesn't work I would use some Servisol Video 40 on it.

When a cd is playing it skips back to beginning of cd & will not advance to next song or it skips the cd entirely & will not continue to play

unfortunately if your disc is clean and scratch free your laser will be weak and need replacing,, on that model cleaning the laser is a waste of time and money as its a sealed cabinet --check for flaws on your disc itself

Lens Knocking Against The CD - All CDs skip or diginoise then fail.

Take the small back cover off and take some electrical grade contact cleaner and spray all around the lens area, that worked for me.
