Format your drive in which windows is loaded and then load windows a different drive (D or E or F etc) it will work and after re instalation windows disable windows update from control panel (control panel then system and security then windows update then turn automatic update on or off then select never check for update) and apply

Tyr this, turn your computer and just use your keys to select the control panel. 2 go into devices and see if your mouse is installed if the show s that your mouse is on there. Please select the mouse to refresh it. 3 Go back to the start menu shut down the computer for 2min the turn on strike the F12 key I believe and see if your mouse is installed.

SOURCE: A hard disk problem is preventing windows from starting.

The black screen with flashing cursor can be caused by the files needed to boot being located in sectors of the hard drive that can no longer be read.

You can try booting to the XP CD, and go to recovery console and RUN CHKDSK /F See if that fixes the file structure and allows the system to boot. If that fails, you can try a repair installation of Windows. If that fails, the most likely resolution is replacing the HDD and reloading Windows and the drivers.

SOURCE: Need to restore to factory default but my lappy gives me a blank black screen with a blinking underscore on the top left of the screen.

There might be one step you could try to restore the system to factory specifications. When you turn the laptop on, and you see the Acer splash screen, press the Alt-F10 keys together at the same time, and this should hopefully bring the Acer eRecovery system up, provided that your computer has the built-in recovery partition. If it asks for a password, try using the default of "000000". If that doesn't work, then a password has been entered into the system, and there is no way to reset it, however there is a way to find out what the password is, however it does require the use of the Ubuntu Operating System (which is free to download, here)

SOURCE: Acer Aspire One Netbook 8.9' Won't Boot Up !!!

The Acer Aspire One has a built-in BIOS recovery routine, which can boot into a minimal BIOS environment via a special boot block to re-flash the BIOS, even if the system does not pass POST and does otherwise not boot anymore. This is also known as crisis disk mode.

First format an USB flash drive with FAT. It does not need to be bootable.

Download the latest BIOS, and extract all files from the zip file. Put both FLASHIT.EXE and the BIOS file with FD suffix in the root directory of the flash drive. The files must not be in a folder. Rename the BIOS file to ZG5IA32.FD before proceeding. It only works with this exact filename.

Turn the AA1 off, with the flash drive still connected, and make sure both battery and AC adapter are also connected.

Press Fn and Esc simultaneously, keep them pressed and press the power button. Release Fn+Esc after a few seconds. The power button starts blinking at this point. Press the power button once. The AA1 will now initiate flashing the BIOS. After a while the button stops blinking, and the AA1 reboots shortly after. Wait patiently.

If it doesn't reboot by itself, but keeps blinking, wait at least a few minutes before turning it off, and try again.

Memory leak

First replace the CMOS battery. Question: When you turn it off, are you shutting down with the Start Menu RESTART, shut down? OR pushing the on/off button. If you post the Acer Model and the OS you are using it would be helpful. Is the Battery in the laptop? Is it charging?

Cannot start up my laptop since in done an update

Try booting into "Last known good configuration" it is on the same screen as Safe Mode, if that does not work, you can try to run CHKDSK /r from the windows install CD, just choose "Repair" in the option, if this does not work I suggest removing that hard drive and slaving it into another computer to get your data off and then reload Windows onto it. It is missing a .dll
