Question about KitchenAid KP2671 Professional 6 Series Stand Mixer
I have a pro5 475w mixer. It automatically raises its speed to max and then shuts off, every time you move the switch to any setting. I've replaced the switch twice, and in 20 minutes the new switch is haunted again. Sometimes the switch will go back to normal for a few minutes, and then goes right back to "auto-shift max speed-shut-off." Quite the thing to use. My mixer will only accelerate about 3 sec and then shuts off.
The likely problem is the Hall Effect sensor located on top of the motor. This sensor is used to determine the speed of the motor. Since it does not sense a speed, the motor revs to top speed and shuts down. You have to shut the switch to Off/Reset to try again. Replace the sensor which costs under $10 before replacing the speed control which costs $50.

SOURCE: mixer speed switch is haunted
Here is where you can download the repair manual. Read the section on speed control adjustments and repair. This might not be difficult for someone who is mechanixcally and electrically knowledgible.
