Our samsung tv was making loud noises. the color would get distorted and it would turn off on its own. after unplugging it and plugging it back in, we watched it for a short while and we heard a shatter like a light bulb shattering. the model no is hlr4667w

That was probably your color wheel being destroyed. This repair is not for the DIY'er you need to see a tech for thione believe me... The light engine housing needs to be removed justy above the color wheel and a new color wheel needs to be installed. Wheels are not cheap 2-3 hundred dollars and you would be surprised how much tear-down the tech will have to do to get at the wheel housing. But believe me it's well worth it...
If you have any problem locating a good reputable tech for the repair you might try NESDA (National Electronic Service Dealers Assn.) or let me know about what city/state you're located in and I can recommend someone.

Samsung HLS5086WX/XAA made popping noise and shut off, then made whirring noise.
When my TV did this in the past it ended up being the color wheel. I had someone replace it and it worked fine. I asked it if had to be calibrated after it is installed and he said no. Also make sure the door switch is pushed down when you install the back bulb door. Sometimes this switch can go bad as well.

On the metal box where the two cables from the color wheel plugged look for a tiny rectangular opening in the metal shield---there is a tiny jumper plug there, remove it carefully with a tiny pair of needle nose pliers.

One of the things they do not tell you when you replace the color wheel, it is somewhat different than the original one.

Hi,If your tv is a dlp you might be experimenting a color wheel problem.The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms.The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises.

Model 5063W - loud noise
The picture is pink, that would point more toward the color wheel, and you can see the fan through the vents in the back and you can go from there. It sounds more like the color wheel since you have a picture malfunction.
