You only need 64 mb ram to run XP . So yes you could upgrade and the 400MHz processor isn't too bad you can still use it over the internet. Some people need to know something before making comments God Bless you Greg

This model is old as we know, and if it does have a removable processor, then yes, you could change it to another one. Finding one that fits that chipset woul dbe hard as probably no one sells it any more. Of course, unless you can get 512MB of ram or more in it, it wouldnt be worth it as winxp easily uses 512MB and i recomend 756MB or more,

You woul dbe better off installing a streamline version of Windows 2000 and only installing office and using it for internet but definatley no gaming or anything that requires alot of power.

If you can find a Maw and Pop computer store that has alot of used parts for sale, you may get lucky. You could also try searching Ebay and finding a damaged one for parts and upgrading it with one that has simialr chipsets and RAM.

All in all though, you would probably be better off just using towards a decent Acccer from walmart.

Good luck

Without a bios update and updated operating system the ram may not work properly. Also the memory itself may be faulty.Verification of compatibility doesn't really guarantee the ram will actually work properly when seated. You should have used 2 pc2100 ram sticks.

Toshiba Satellite 1805-s253 memory upgrade

Usually this means it supports 512 mb of "Single sided" ram, which is rarer and more expensive... the usual ram you buy now is double-sided.. which will often only see one of the sides in older machines.

I have a Satellite 2405-S221 and I was wondering if the max memory i can install is 512K, is there a way to update the bios, or ANYTHING to increase that amount to at least 1 gig??

Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop to up to a maximum of 512 MB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed.

In short.... yeah, 512k is the max.

Doesn't appear to a bios limitation. It is a hardware issue that is limiting the amount.

Toshiba Satellite Pro M15-S405 Memory upgrade problem

This usually happens when the laptop is not able to take more then a certain amount of memory, as the system BIOS does not support higher. By saying ACPI as the blue screen, that tells me that the power subsystem does not 'like' having more then 512MB of RAM. I am 95% sure this is your BIOS because of that information. Check and see if you can find a BIOS upgrade for your computer model, and that might fix the issue, if an update is available.

Toshiba laptop problem

The right memory for your laptop is

256MB Memory (PC2-4200) KTT533D2/256, PA3389U-2M25 KTOS534

512MB Memory (PC2-4200) KTT533D2/512, PA3412U-1M51, PA3412U-2M51 KTOS535

1GB Memory (PC2-4200) KTT533D2/1G, PA3411U-2M1G KTOS536

Using the wrong memory can caused motherboard failure.

Try reinserting the old one memory module.
Be sure that the memory is placed in the right way

Above is a site showing some of the type of memory that you need. The memory type is 333 Mhz PC 2700 SoDIMM memory. Installation would cost $39 at Geek Squad.
