No picture and i replaced the bulb

I replaced the bulb on my Magnavox dlp tv after the repair man i called said the tv needed a new bulb because the red light on the tv when the bulb fails came on. the tv also turned itself off. the tv still dosn't work. i called another repair man who came to my home and he said it was my color wheel and a new one would cost $1700.00. so far i have spent over $200.00. do you think it's my color wheel or could it be something else? the tv is less than 2 years old. please help.

Hi. We bought a DLP in February of this year. The red light keeps coming on and the picture goes off. However, we continue to get sound. What could this be?

Joe,
I've never heard of a color wheel costing that much even with labor included - I think I'd try to find another tech for his advice.. If you have trouble locating one try NESDA or let me know what city/state you're in and maybe I can help recommend someone.
That said, if the lamp is good the next logical thing to check is the ballast. If the ballast is not supplying voltage to the lamp then it clearly won't light. A ballast is not that expensive, similar to a ballast in a floresent light - only a bit more complex. In any event I would strongly suggest finding a real professional first we are out there...

Its easy...just buy a bulb from sites like Tv Repair Kits and swap it out. To do that remove the back bulb cover, pull out the bulb box....remove the old bulb and put the new one in.

Magnavox tv when the power button is pressed the green light comes on but nothing else happens; there's no picture or sound or nothing; but the green light simply stays lit (no blinking).

Hello,

first, press the channel -/+ button on the TV. If that doesn't turn on the TV, then it means you have to replace the bulb of your TV. The bulb is most likely dead.

Replace the bulb and your TV should be restored.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Regards.

The projection bulb came on,but didn't stay on mean the bulb have problems, dosen't mean projection bulb it still good.First must replace a new projection bulb to make sure for the elimation for the projection bulb is the problems. These DLP tvs require new projection bulb every 1 1/2 or 2 years by watching the tv like 4 or 5 hours daily. So there no lost there for trying a new projection bulb alway can save it for later use.The secound could be the board that call the Ballast board have problems too.The Ballast board only job it is to ignite to the projection bulb and make it work.Replace the Ballast board too,if the tv new projection bulb react the same way.

Yes,the problem is the colors wheel it dead. That one of the cause by the colors wheel, other are alots of squiling noises and making very loud buzzing sound. The cooling fan that u think is overheating, does it stop sometimes, when the tv is still on?Yes,than replaced it also,no than it still ok.Just hire the tv repairman, the parts he'll take care of it,don't order the parts,u might get the wrong parts or different sizes, that will not fit in ur tv.

Pull the front cover off at the bottom. You will see a panel which has to be removed using a screw driver. Inside you will see the lamp assembly. It is a removable box. The lamp can be changed out by just changing out the connections on the new lamp. Before you pull it though try reducing your picture size to 4:3 it helped us to get a little more life out of our lamp.

Your bulb is burned out. I have had the same problem. It seems this television has an overheating problem--and short bulb life. I have had our 50 Magnavox dlp for two years and just put in the second bulb before Christmas. You can buy the bulb from a dealer on ebay for $99 and install it yourself. I is not in the housing so you have to carefully take out 4 screws and replace the bulb without touching the face of the bulb. To buy the one from Magnavox with the housing is much more expensive. I think the first time my husband replaced the bulb it took about 45 minutes--this time it took about 20.
