Question about Dell Dimension 5100 (D51L1) PC Desktop

Dell dimension 5100 - no power

I recently moved, and when I tried to startup my computer after the move I got no power. The power light does not light up at all. I do have power to the monitor, shows the amber light.

On the motherboard, the green LED lights up. But when I press and hold the power button I get nothing. No sounds, no lights, nothing.

Please help me with what the problem may be. I checked all connections and nothing seems to have come apart. I did not unplug and replug everything, only some of the connections. But everything seemed to be firmly in place.

that's the box the the power cord goes into right? I believe my father has an extra one with a slightly lower wattage. I dont have much on the computer, and the only thing i ever plug in for power is my iPon nano...so it shouldnt matter that I have the lower wattage?? I'm at work now and dont remember the difference in watts, but i dont think it was much. I'll try it tonight and let you know tomorrow if it works....or i guess tonight if it works. ha.

I recently moved and when i hooked all of it back

open it up check all the connections memory and add in cards for security.
connect it and try again. Sometimes the bios battery can cause wierd problems, they are usually a 2032 battery on the motherboard. replace it if it's suspect. I would then look at the power supply. Big heavy capitors don't like being dropped, (neither do hard drives for that matter).

Computer will not turn on at all. Dell Dimension 5100 desktop

I would unplug the power supply from the motherboard, wait a little while and then plug it back in.
Try to power everything back up and it should come up.

I am assuming you are getting a light on the motherboard that indicates power is being supplied?

Dell Dimension 5100 Won't start up

Hi

First disconnecting the power cord and re-seat all connections (Keyboard, Mouse espercially). Connect up the power cord and try powering the PC.

To help you troubleshoot a problem, Dell Dimension 5100 has four diagnostic lights labeled "1," "2," "3," and "4" on the front panel. When the computer starts normally, the lights flash. After the computer starts, all four lights display solid green. If the computer malfunctions, the color and sequence of the lights identify the problem.

If the computer failed to start up check the diagnostic lights color and sequence and Check the link below for more info (Assuming you have another system that can access internet)
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5100/en/sm/tshoot1.htm#wp1120147

Alternatively, contact Dell Support with the diagnostic lights color and sequence to raise a service call if the system if under warranty.
