Question about MSI Motherboards

IDE slot U/S

I have a Medion P/C with a MSI MS7123 Ver1 motherboard Skt 939 on which the single IDE slot is not working HD is connected to SATA1 but the P/C will not boot & as it will not show any IDE or CD etc. connected or find any hardware on IDE via BIOS in 'autofind' also P/C will not boot or start Win XP Pro from the HD (Blue screen) with the message 'halted to prevent damage' Any ideas please as I understand the motherboard may be a Medion special & is now unobtainable with no repair service.
Regards, Bruce

I would check the RAM. dpending on how much and how many, try removeing one, then the other and swaping them out and running the computer with just one at a time. if one works and the other doesnt, BINGO, thats the problem.

If they both work seperatly, put them both back in and try it. SOmetime sdust will build on the contacts and you have to clean it out and reseat the devices.

You can also try resetting the bios by unpluging th P.C. and removing the bios battery for a minute, put back in, power on and see what happens.

If you get an error about an invalid system config, just hit F1 and ignor it, thats just the system telling you the Time and date need to be set.

Good luck and let me know if you need more help, or want it.:)

Hello. Some motherboards set SATA1 as IDE primary master, for compatibility. Try connect the DVD RW to SATA2 or SATA3 Port.

K8 Neo-2 V-2.0

Please connect jPw1 to 4 Pin 12v, this supplies power to CPU. Than enter Bios & find Boot settings. Set the cdrom as boot 1 & hd as boot 2. Check the jumper on the cdrom, as it is the only device on secondary IDE controller it should be set as a master.
It is better to install a fresh copy of windows with a new motherboard. Put your windows CD in the cdrom & the system will boot to it. And your on your way. You can install the drivers for the board after windows has been installed.
Enjoy!
