Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have an issue with a network printer. I have a Brother MFC 8440 connected to a HP laptop with Vista 64 via a US Robotics 9108 wireless router with a USB/printer port. The printer works connected directly to the laptop and previously worked via the wireless router. However, it has now stopped working. I get a ?printing? status in the printer window which eventually becomes ?Error ? Printing?. This began happening sometime after my attempt to tweak my system, so obviously I did something stupid. I have deleted and re-added the printer with a TCP/IP address of http://192.168.1.1:1631/printers/My_Printer. When I access the router and check the printer status, it claims to be ready. I suspect there is a service or something that is either not running or I deleted, but I cannot find what it is. I am logged in as admin. Any help will be appreciated.

    chessmaster2,

Sorry for the delay, but notification was caught in my ISP's spam filter. Uunfortunately, your fix didn't work. I get a status - printing for a while, then it goes to error - printing. Nothing prints. I can Cancel all documents to clear the queue.

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

No issues like that.
Network should show up no matter what the OS is, if the wireless card is working fine.
If u r not able to connect after that, check the security settings in the computer.

Laptop Cannot Find Home Wireless Network

Try logging into the router with your desktop hard-wired and find the 25-digit passcode and use that to log on to the wireless network with the laptop. If not, then check if connection is good by hard-wiring the router to the laptop. Let me know what happens or if you have solved the problem.

I suggest you network the printer and access it through the wireless access point.

Also, I do not mean to insult your computer smarts, but if you do not have a driver installed, you will not be able to talk to the printer at all.

I have a us robotics wireless model 9108 router. I have just bought a dell inspiron laptop with vista home premium and am unable to connect to the internet. can you help?

ushally you will have to set up your connection being connected to the router via the lan cable once you do that you can configure your laptop to be allowed to run on the wireless setting.

so if you have another computer hooked upto it you can set the permissions on that you have to create a new network for the laptop.

if you have the manual you can find the configuration settings for your router, most you just open up Internet explorer and then type in home to access this menu.

but for your unit im not 100% sure of the configure setup for it.

Hi Ed, if your using windows you can open network connections & run network setup wizard. Follow the instruction for a home network for the wireless PC's & notebooks. Once the network is setup for all PC's than you can install the printer cd software in the PC's that you want to access the printer. Each PC & notebook will have access to the printer through the network.
The PC that that is connected to the printer needs to be shared.
Open printers and Faxes. Right click once on the printer & left click sharing. Agai follow the instructions.
Lastly,I strongly suggest you setup security for your wireless. If you do not anyone close can tap into your network connection. Follow linksys instruction to setup security. If you run into a problem you can call linksys for free advise from a pro. Their number is listed in the manual.

Good Luck! Take your time.

D-link router DI524 using next G external wireless modem

You can purchase a usb wireless dongle and attach to the PC. From then onwards you can set up a wireless network without connecting the usb cable for the router. The dongle will enable wireless capabilities on the pc. The only thing left is to have all devices running in the same workgroup.
