Try website like Remotes.com to buy the original remote it ur best bet.Tries the manual control on the tv.Push the Menu button use the channel + - and the volume + - on the manual buttons to adjust colors, contrast, brightness.
I would love to know how long this problem has been posted ... I have the same problem ... how bizzare ... when I read that two others have this problem I knew there must be a solution (but know one solved it yet). I haven't used my bedroom tv for I don't remember how many months (good news - it got me and the kids spending more time together - tv or otherwise, rather than being in separate rooms) anyhow ... finally fed up, received free upgrade satillite receivers and I was bound and determined to find the solution (or conceed and buy a new tv - who has the money these days, right) well sifted through the on-line manual ... whoa la ... it's the Front Panel Block (turned on) didn't even know it had this feature ... to turn it off press and hold the power button (I used the remote) for 6 seconds (count slowly ... like one mississippi, two miss issippi, and so on....) HURRAY!!!!!!! I hope I made someone elses day.
after months of non-use ... I finally was determined to solve this myself ... found this site ... no solutions, but similar problem. I checked out the online manuel ... and Vhao la ... somehow the FRONT PANEL BLOCK got turned on ... turn off by pressing and holding the power button for 6 slow seconds (I used the remote, guess it doesn't matter)
I am not aware of access from front panel. However, a cheap RCA universal will work it. (RCA made GE tvs) http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=70604&WT.mc_n=4&WT.mc_t=U&cm_ven=COMPARISON%20SHOPPING&cm_cat=GOOGLE&cm_pla=DATAFEED-%3EPRODUCTS&cm_ite=1%20PRODUCT&cm_keycode=4
Do the other remote functions work once the TV is powered on? If so you probably have a problem with the film switch inside the remote. If your really talented you can delaminate the film clean the switch with a pencil eraser and put it back together. If not very talented with tight work like that just get another remote.
Another possibility is that your remote is actually set to another function. Try pushing the TV button on the remote before pushing the on button.
