My Dell Latitude D600 laptop will start up just fine, then about 2 days ago the monitor screen would randomly go dark, making it impossible to see anything! Even after unplugging all of my usb cables and restarting the laptop the screen goes dark almost as soon as I sign in now! The laptop seems to be fine save for this dark monitor problem. Help! What do I do?

That's the inverter board on the monitor (the ones which gives power to the monitor) or the lamp on the monitor. Try to see if after it boots (prob after 5 minutes) you can see what's on the screen (even though it's really dark), if you can't see anything at all it means it's the screen. Also you can use it in the meantime by connecting another monitor and press FN (function) and F8 (probably twice) and you will see everything on the external monitor. I hope this helps.
The picture board on your monitor is faulty or bad, since it goes
black after few seconds, it means the
board of your laptop has developed fault.
The best thing for you
do now is to take the laptop to a local repairer within your vicinity
to help with the replacement of the picture board
because the fault is not something you can fix yourself. in order not to
Seems that you have a loose LCD screen cable connection. You will need to disassemble the laptop & make sure the LCD screen cable connection is tight.

You may also need a screen inverter - in fact that is often the reason a screen is considered to be failing. The lcd inverter can be one of the most common items to become defective in a laptop computer. You may need a lcd inverter replacement if your screen is dim, dark, colored oddly, blinking, flickering or has dark stripes. Just something to keep in mind.
Hope this helps,
You should be able to plug in an external (Desktop type) monitor . Look for a connector on the side or back of the laptop. If the external monitor works, you have pretty much diagnosed that you have a LCD problem. Ron-
