My remote fell in water and I cannot find the manual to see if I can change channels without a remote. Any ideas? Thanks

Yes, you should be able to change TV channels from the main unit:

1. Press the "FUNCTION" button in the top right corner until the display shows TV.
2. Use the CH UP and DOWN buttons to move up and down one channel at a time. The CH UP/DOWN buttons are the 2 buttons immediately to the left of the display, one above the other.

You can also download a new user manual from here:

After clicking the link, the download page will open in a new window. To download the manual:

1. Scroll down the page a little a click on "Download the Document". A new page will open.
2. Scroll down to near the bottom of the page to the "Download Instructions" box.
3. Enter the 5-digit code in the second box (You don't need to enter your email address!)
4. Click on the red "Download Now >>" button
5. A small "File Download" box will appear. Click on "SAVE" and save the file to an easy to remember location on your PC, e.g. your Desktop.

After the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file and double-click on the file to open it. If you are unable to open the file, you will also need to download the latest version of Adobe Reader:

With regard to the "wet" remote, it may be salvageable. Do not test it. Remove the batteries and, if possible, gently separate the top and bottom halves of the remote. Soak up any excess moisture and leave the remote somewhere warm to dry. Leave for at least 3 days (longer if possible) then reassemble the remote, insert new batteries and try it again. There is no guarantee this will work - it's simply pot luck. If you already tested the remote after dropping it in water, then it's less likely to work again.

You can get a new remote from - $35.00

I always advise checking with suppliers that they have stock before ordering and that they are selling you a genuine original remote rather than a third-party replacement which is supposed to work with your machine. Also, it is always worth looking on eBay for used replacement remotes as they generally cost less. I can't find one there at the moment, but if you keep looking, one might appear in the near future.

Hope this helps. Please post back if you need further assistance.

Karaoke Machine - words are overlapping/jumping

The Sining Machine #SMG-301 has a problem with not playing because of the word 'DOOR' coming up on the readout. I've checked the door/Tray to make sure that it was closed and when you open up the tray/door to put or take out another disk the word that comes up on the readout is not DOOR it's OPEAN! Any suggestions?

The cd player won't read any of the discs

Your cable problem I can't help with. The antenna is fairly easy... you just need to replace it with a second-hand one preferably from an old radio that is no good. Just make sure that it is the same size where it screws into the unit. The CD is the easiest part of the lot to fix, contrary to what Repair shops tell you. I don't think these people are dumb, and I don't think they intentionally try to rip us off by selling a new item instead, but I have found that cleaning the lens in the CD player fixes the problem. I buy old CD players that don't work, and within two minutes they are playing again. First try to use one of the commercial lens cleaners. I'll be really surprised if this works , though. It usually takes a LITTLE more effort than that... but that is the quick and easy way, and it's best to try that first. If it works OK, please let me know. I'd be interested to find out. If it doesn't, it means you will have to open the case, and clean the lens by hand, using a soft cloth, and what is known in Australia as Methylated Spirits, and then wipe it again with a soft dry cloth.I don't know the Yankee version of "Metho", but you should find it if you google it. If you need any more help, please don't hesitate to ask........ Please remember to rate this answer.

No power or anything

So I had nearly the same thing, only no intermittent behavior - just alive one day, dead the next.

I took my unit to an electronics repair place. For $25 they diagnosed AC power supply failure and offered to charge me a total of $110 to refurbish the machine.

I balked since we paid far less for the unit on Ebay ($70 or so).

The store gave me the parts list for the estimate though - and I bought the parts and did the work myself. Total another $25 approx, plus time. If you are up for some small electrical work, get a soldering iron, some electrical solder and a soldering wick. You will need, some wire cutters / strippers, and a screw driver too. you may also want a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel.

Anyway, just replace the first 4 diodes after the transformer leads to the main board and replace the transformer.

The diodes can be from any of a number of manufacturers - mine are Vishay part number 1N5408 - 0827J. The critical part of this part number is the first 6 characters. Put the diodes in using the orientation guide printed on the main circuit board (otherwise risk putting them in backwards).

The transformer part was a Stancor, part number P-8657 - it converts standard wall AC (117V at 50 or 60 Hz) to AC at 12V, 2A. This part is BIGGER than the OEM Hang Fung transformer. I used a Dremel tool and cut out the mounting pieces for the OEM transformer from the main housing. This made enough space to fit the new transformer. Now the new transformer is held in place by clamping action of the two-piece main housing when the screws are installed. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS SAFE, SO YOU ARE WARNED!!!

Unit works fine now. Mouser electronics has the parts and will ship USPS in a few days.

Thanks to VY Electronics, Rochester, MN for diagnostic work.

Tv is on but wont play

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.

1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.
Give the brand name and the model number..

hope this may help;

Blank karaoke machine

Try looking on the back of the machine for vertical and or horizontal hold controls (marked V-Hold and H-Hold) and try adjusting them, especially the horizontal hold.

If that doesn't help, then the next troubleshooting step would be if the machine has a video output you could try connecting to a TV/Monitor and see if the graphics appear there.
