I have installed new batteries as well as retail store have with no results. the on / off button dosen't work. All other other suggestion have ben tried with no success.
The camera was purchased @ Circurt City, with installation CD / city advantage protection plan product code: DIKITV3.

In response to my previous remarks response to your question: I have not droped the camera. When you evgage the on off button there is no connection.
The retailer where the czmera was purchased was more instrested in selling a new product. There response was it most likely cost more to repair than the camera worth.I take very good care of my camera.

Just check the battery compatibility and remove and replace the battery. Exert more pressure and try to switch on the camera.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, your concern would be:

  • corroded or loose battery terminals. Clean/scrape and/or slightly bend/stretch the battery terminals/connectors. The idea is to exert more pressure/contacts to the batteries; or
  • the camera has a glitch in the lens mechanism. Though the correct procedure would be to seek the services of a qualified professional, some have reported success by jarring the camera back into action by thumping the bottom to the pal of one's hand or the pages of an open book.
  • of course the alternative is as earlier stated, send it in for service/repair.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Ah..This is a dreaded problem in canon. In most cases the on/off button gets stuck there by not responding. Take a ball pin and just poke into the gap beside the button and see if you can get it out. Having said that this can also be a dead battery issue. Let me know what you have found so that we can get through this.

I push the button but it wont take a picture

Did you try it like it is said in the manual? press the button half till the camera is focused and then press the button completely down?
Don't expect the camera to shoot with the same speed as a camera with film did. Give it some time to focus and everything will be fine (I hope)
If not let me know.

Did you accidentally hit the lower left "Display" button on the back of your camera? It manually turns the screen on or off to save batteries. Turn the camera on and press it once to check.

So you can see images that are on the card from previous taking but not new? Just to confirm - this is an optical SLR? With a mirror that flips up when you press the button - is that right? If so it souns like to mirror is not going up. Can you hear it go up? Come back

No picture taken when shutter release is pressed

if you see no reation of the pressing of the button i.e. no focusing, no error message nothing , then most probably a simplest problem , the shutter release button may not be working for few reasons : 1) defective switch. 2) defective flex cable. 3) camera exposed to some physical jerk or dropping resulting into disalingment between inner switch and the shutter release button.

Camera won't turn ON

First off, everything was not fine until this morning. You had this occur a month ago. Frankly, I would have done exactly as you did a month ago and nothing more. I have seen too many electrical problems permanently solved by turning a device off and then on, or by rebooting. Here is what I would generally recommend: 1. See what the camera manual suggests. 2. Charge the batteries fully before using them. New ones are often not charged up. They could have been in a warehouse for months. 3. The electrical contacts on your camera, the ones that interface with the batteries, may be a little corroded. If you can access them easily, try cleaning them with the eraser on the end of a pencil. Same with the batteries themselves. 4. If exposed to prolonged high humidity, electrical problems may include not only the power supply, but other electrical switches, such as the reset button., which you cannot address on your own. 5. Call Sony.
