My printer will only take letter paper now for some reason.   It only "occasionally" will take a greeting card stock.   This is very frustrating!   How can I fix this?

After 3 years of use and great performance, my printer won't print anything. It won't take in the paper and says it's not loaded correctly.

I haven't used my printer for 6 months as I needed new cartridges (and was really slack) and have only had it for about 9 months total - it was brand new. Now, when I try to print something it says paper is not loaded correctly - and it IS. What a joke.

These aren't helping, I'm afraid. I've tried cleaning the roller with window cleaner as suggested but the printer craps out even before the rollers start rolling and trying to grip - 'media not loaded correctly', grrrrrrrr! Any more ideas out there?

The problem seems to be extreme sensitivity of the printer to dust. The printer picks up dust from the paper, and once enough dust has accumulated, the printer just won't feed any more paper. This can happen after only a few sheets of dusty paper go through, and it gets serious with heavy stock.

They guys at Inkjetart.com have a lot of good ideas for Epson printer problem solving. They have suggested spraying Windex (C) on a sheet of paper and feeding it through the printer to clean off the dust. This works, but there's the chance that the wet paper can tear and leave a piece inside the feed path. Bad joss.

Instead of that, I clean the offending roller. Standing in front of the printer, look down into the feed path. You'll see a grey roller, about 5/8" wide, about 1-3/4" to the left of the right edge of the paper. With no paper in the printer, press the paper feed button--the second button from the right. You'll see that grey roller go around two times as it tries to pick up the paper that's not there. Dust on that grey roller seems to be the problem.

Take a piece of cloth, wrap a layer around your index finger, spray Windex on the cloth that covers your fingerprint, reach that finger into the paper path so the wet cloth rests on the roller, and press the paper feed button. Don't let your finger get dragged into the wedge of the paper path. You'll feel the roller go around two times as it rubs against the cloth. For good measure, dry the roller by wrapping a dry cloth around your index finger and repeating the process. This always works for me, and it's pretty simple to do.

Another thing I've done is wipe the dust from the front surface of the paper before I feed it into the printer. This helps a lot, but the Windex on a cloth method is the ultimate cure.

My Epson R1800  does this and has since I got it.
Solution #1 - Put your finger on top of card stock, just the right amount of weight will make it feed.  Frustrating, yes, but in a pinch it helps.  You may have to do this several times to get it to feed.
Solution #2 - I was told I need to feed it from the back.  I didn't understand this until I found a slot for feeding rolls of paper or canvas.  I haven't been able to try this because I have move it to a more open area and don't have that at this time.
Good Luck!

I have this problem after using fine art paper. As someone said previously the problem appears to be dust on the rollers to which this printer seems very susceptible. I have found that cleaning them with a little bit of Ethanol - I use a baby tooth brush - and then running a few sheets of ordinary paper through does the trick very nicely.

Hope this helps.

I know at my workplace, they say if you leave the paper out of the wrapper, it gets humidity in it & our copy machine won't work properly. They suggested leaving the paper in the wrapper until ready to load more paper. Also, you might try holding the paper in one hand & taking your thumb and going thru the paper as if looking thru it for a particular page. Good luck! Julie

I am trying to print on vellum paper and my printer will not recognize it. I tried opening up the control panel on my computer and vellum/lightweight/film/transparent are all not options for paper types. ...

The printer has no ability to know the paper type, this setting happens in SOFTWARE, like Word. Then the command is sent to the printer, more commonly you would change papertype for photo printing....Look in the software, and not the printer itself.

The best paper for the Lexmark X1270 printer

Hello. Your first consideration is paper weight. All printer paper, inkjet included, is measured in gsm or grammes per square meter. A very lightweight paper for your inkjet printer would be 60gsm. When you walk into any store and buy a **** (500 sheets) of inkjet paper you'll find that the stock on display is 80gsm. This is a general purpose weight paper suitable for photocopiers, inkjet and laser printers.
What if you need a heavier weight paper? This shoulnd't pose a problem in any well stocked office supply or computer store. Inkjet paper also comes in 90gsm, 100gsm and higher grades. You'll find that heavier papers give you crisper text and less ink bleed also. Do bear in mind that every inkjet printer has a maximum paper thickness it can handle. If you're buying paper in weights of 110gsm - 125gsm consult your printer documentation before you feed very heavy paper through it - otherwise you risk seriously damaging your printer.
Apart from the weights you also have a wide variety of styles. Paper for your inkjet printer can also be purchased in bright white variants. These are designed for single sided printing of important documents or presentation pages. This type of paper is more expensive but if your goal is to impress then it's money well spent as ther results are truly impressive.

When the printer grabs the paper from the tray it grabs it in a corner resulting in a paper jam. It now does it every single time I attempt to print.

Hello there
Right this has beed good so far and help lots, so gave it a go.

This may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Paper jams constantly, without fail.

Hello, this problem may be able to be fixed. You have started out correctly by looking inside for something out of place and cleaning the rubber rollers that "grip" the paper. Next thing would be to get a higher quality of paper (heavier weight) and see if that fixes the problem. Often times a slightly heavier stock paper will work. Some of the cheapest papers are more slipery and thin. This may not be the solution you are looking for, becuase you have to use more expensive paper, but I have found that on an older inkjet printer it will allow you to print. If this does solve your problem, then you know that its a paper grip problem and you can go in and take some course sandpaper to your rubber wheels to make them grab the paper better. If this doesn't work get a flashlight and look into the paper feed when it is trying to grab the paper to make sure the intake roller is turning correctly and try to manually feed it through there by pushing the top sheet through if possible. It has to be one thing or another and you just have to go through the process of elimination to see what is going wrong with the mechanical process of grabbing the paper and getting it to go through. Most printers have a manual load area where you can feed paper through. If you have that, you can verify that the paper feed channel is unblocked. Often a tiny piece of paper is lodged somewhere that stops a new sheet from making its way through.

Problem with my HP Printer 2600n

hi im josh in cebu phils.may i help you? Friend this possible solutions of mine:
Problem: Paper Jams in Your Printer It's possible that your printer's internal paper feed mechanisms are getting dirty. You can try taking the printer apart yourself to clean out any pieces of scrap paper or other debris, or you might want to take it into the shop to let a pro deal with it.
You might also be getting some paper sticking to other sheets of paper in your paper tray. (This happens more often with cheaper paper—spend a little more and get the good stuff!) Try thumbing through the stack of paper before inserting it into the tray; this should loosen up the paper and make it feed easier into your printer.
Finally, you might need to change the grade of paper you use with your laser or inkjet printer. Lightweight papers tend to jam up the works, so switch to something heavier if you experience a lot of problems. thats all friend good luck
