I was searching the web site above for the manual release but i could not find it. You can find the manual there as well as service and support help.
The common cause for this problem I have seen is the disc inside is wedged in between the tray and the chassis. If you find the manual release you can get it out.
If the problem persists you can open the cd chassis and make sure that the tray is lined up with the tray. Try to open and close automaticly and observe to find where is is hanging up at.
If it all lines up and moves smoothly but still will not open in auto Then look for the proximity switches. They are on the outside edges of the tray and may look like a small plastic stake sticking out of the circuit board. These switches must read what we call flags located on the tray. make sure the prox switches are reading that your tray is seated properly. Good luck and happy holidays.

Question about Philips MC-50 CD Shelf System When I push the cd open-close buttons on the player, the disc tray does not come out. When I select a CD# it says reading, but nothing happens. The player

You have to fear a mechanical defect. In the player are gears and rubber bands involve in the open / close system. If on is defect, or even the motor is defect it won't open at all. When you don't have electronic skills, don't try this yourself.

Look for a small pin hole on the front of the CD tray area. Take a straightened paper clip or a pin, push it into the hole until you feel resistance. Then press the eject button at the same time as you press firmly on the pin or paper clip. The tray should open. May take a few tries as you have to get the timing right. Good luck with it and I hope this helps.

I have a Phillips MC/50. The CD changer keeps changing and won't play, just keeps flipping. If you use the tuner, you still hear the clicks of the CD changer. You have to unplug it.

There is a switch inside the changer that will not release. Most likely the plastic stop it rides on has broken off . This is common when the changer keeps shuffling the disc all the time

"tray locked" message

Hi
There must be a unlocking button on your remote or player.(Child proof) unlocking code might be needed.

Check the owners manual or do a web search for more info.

You power off then power back on while holding down the fast forward and rewind buttons on the recording side simultaneously. The display moves through a sequence of numbers and the trays will then open.

Hi, I had the same problem and i found out that if you hold down the fast forward and the rewind buttons with the power on and off button it will reset. It took me a couple of goes but after a while it worked. When you do it keep all of the buttons held down and a series of numbers flash for about a minute then it will reset. Good luck, Jeff.

The solution is to turn the machine onto standy and then hold the 'display' button for a few seconds, and voila, the trays are unlocked... geni-arse!
