keyboards are plug and play devices so shouldnt need a driver but if you tell us what model of keyboard it is will have a look for you.

  • Shan Jun 21, 2012

First, I want thank everyone for their help!
John, I thought that they were too. But HP who is the manufacturer has
keyboard dwn loads for them. I searched for the driver off the
serial number LE10420401 (Compaq Presario-windows 7) and found an artical
that said the mouse software is bad-hence that effects the keyboard.
    Now I'm really confused!
I dwn lded off HP site another driver-but keyboard still not working.
Tried Ctrl Alt on the keyboard and the start menu pops up which seems to prove
keyboard is working but for some reason is not fully able to do more.
Will appreciate more feed back-I hate having to use the on scr keyboad as it
    slow!

forgot to add that mouse curser 'floats' on the scr-doesn't that the mouse software
    is corrutpted?

should have asked this first are they ps2 or usb connected mouse and keyboard devices and what brand the mouse and keyboard might be faulty have you tried uninstalling both keyboard and mouse restarting your computer then reinstall them
if you use safe mode both devices should work

restart you computer tap the f8 key repeatedly to enter safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you an attempt to repair your computer

If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.
Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only
    Windows Advanced Options Menu
    Please select an option:
    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt
    Enable Boot Logging
    Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
    Debugging Mode
    Start Windows Normally
    Reboot
    Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.
    select safe mode
Click start control panel keyboard hardware make sure you have the right keyboard selected
or you might have uninstall the keyboard then restart your computer then reinstall it and its drivers
click start right click on computer select properties device manager scroll to keyboard you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click update driver
click start right click on computer select properties device manager scroll to mice and other pointing devices you might see a yellow exclamation mark ! or question mark ? or a red x
right click you will need to update the driver

Keyboard problem & it doesn't work prefect

If the keyboard has a round purple connector, power down the computer then unplug and then plug in the keyboard. Power on the computer. If it works your done if it doesn't replace the keyboard. If this is a USB keyboard, with the computer on, unplug and plug in the keyboard if it works great, if it still isn't working replace the keyboard. NOTE if this is a multi functional keyboard (special keys at the top) make sure you install the driver and any software associated with the keyboard.

My keyboard stopped working after my dad threw a pillow on it absent mindedly, and it messed with my normal keyboard now it just doesn't work at all, its really annoying, i tried new batteries,...

Hi supercrapnst ,

Please follow the below steps..:)
  1. Please make sure that you get your keyboard replaced , in case it's still under warranty , hopefully the supplier would give you a direct replacement.
  2. Check if the keyboard works when connected to your friend's pc , so that you are confirmed that it's not just your pc that is having an issue with the keyboard.
  3. Check if there is any lock key function on the keyboard which locks all the keys together so that you unlock them again with the relevant command , please refer to the manual or the icons on your keyboard , as there are some keyboards which provide this option.
  4. Check the device manger settings, via right clicking on my computer icon --> properties --> hardware --> device manager and see if the keyboard is detected as working properly , if there is an error , you need to reinstall the key board driver and hopefully it will work.

Hope this helps ..:)
