I have adjusted the "hue" setting and it does nothing for the red. Blues and greens seem fine as I can adjust them quite a bit. the picture seems fine, and the clarity and contrast seem ok. I have comcast cable HD input so the signal should be fine. I have call 4 or 5 repair shops and been given estimate ranging from 100 to 1000 dollars. I do not want to be ripped off but understand that it might not be cheap.

First check inputs on hd cable box then on back off tv to see if they are on tight.With you not telling us if this is a rear projection or LCD projection it kind of hard to inform what the promblem is.If rear projection its the RED CRT,if LCD then light engine firstname.lastname@example.org

the projection tube needs to be adjust for color alignment, each tube (red, green, blue) must be aligned so you there would be no color smear appear on screen. if it is aligned try to set up the color balance, hue etc.
My guess is that you're not missing the color it just appears muted... That problem is a common one in both the 50 and 60 inch models. And if you change video mode with nothing hooked up you'll see a faint color where none should be...
That's simply dust in the optical block on one of either the red, blue or green lcd panel. Wipe it down with a non-linting cloth and a "light" amount of windex and you're back in business...
But check it out by switchin through the video modes with nothing hooked up.. The faint color you see if the lcd panel that's having the most problem and the one that's muting your green.
IF IT IS HOOKED UP WITH COMPONENT CABLES (GREEN, RED, AND BLUE) FOR PICTURE AND RED AND WHITE FOR AUDIO, MOST LIKELY THE RED ONE IS NOT SEATED PROPERLY, CHECK BOTH ENDS THE ONE CONNECTED TO THE TV AND THE ONE CONNECTED TO WHATEVER THE SOURCE IS ( SATELLITE BOX, CABLE BOX ETC.
Hi, did you try a color convergence? I used to work in Best Buy and one of the key things about rear projection TVs and the reason they push those service plans on you is that the tubes/colors need to be calibrated each year. You can do this yourself by checking out the following website:

I had the same problem with my TV, but the hue was blue. I was told that not only did I have to replace the picture tube that wasn't staying on, but I would have to replace them all because they would not mix properly. After much investigation, I found that there is an adjustment for a variable power supply to each tube that can brighten and lighten each tube. I adjusted the RED pot and my picture color issue was resolved! To access this adjustment you must remove the front panel on the TV. At the bottom corners there are two small screw covers that you must remove. Then un-screw the screws under the covers. Then pull the front panel off of the TV, (it hooks under the top near the screen so it will swing out from the bottom). Now remove the wooden panel in the center, (four screws). The pot adjustments are at the bottom of the TV. They are marked for Red, Blue, and Green. They are extremely sensitive, don't turn them much! If you over adjust you will get red, green, or blue lines on your screen. Adjust back down to remove these, (this is also the remedy for removing these lines that can appear over time). When ever a tube starts to short or is shorted set always will have over bearing drive lines then shut down like RED if it was bad, set would come on long enough for red lines across set then shut down this is the same with all 3 tubes.Also if you think it might be green tube disconnected green CRT board on neck of green tube if set comes on and plays then it is green tube do all 3 tube this way one at a time this will tell you if you have other problems.
Yes you have a problem in the red crt driver board. Most likely the driver transistor is failing. This is a component level repair, so if you have no experience with TV repair, play it safe and call in a trained tech to assist you in this matter. Good Luck
