Question about Water Heaters

Whirlpool energy smart water heater

No hot water, light blinks twice indicating the water is to hot-but no hot water at faucet. I can not find the thermostat so I am guessing this is electronically controlled! I do not where this device would be located in the circit panell.
The model # EE2H50RD045V
serial # 0326140440
mfg date 6/03
product # 0830102 50 gal

I have the same problem. Press reset and try again.

After multiple times, here is what happens.
We run hot water and discover it is either cold or more likely way too
hot. A check of the water heater shows 2 blinking lights.

Powering cycling and resetting it while it is hot doesn't resolve the issue.
    The double flashing light returns.
This is good in a sense since the water is too hot.

Later when the water cools, pressing the reset works and the heater
returns to normal for a week or so.

Two flashes means that the high limit temperature has been reached. Once this happens, the temperature control system will shut off. Make sure that all element access doors are in place. Push the "Push to Reset" button to restart the temperature control system. The water heater will self test for ten minutes before it will start to heat. If you get the 2 flashes again then you may need to replace one or both elements. Each element should measure 5-25 ohms.

The "thermostat" is the knob marked "Temperature Control". Make sure that the operating mode is set to 1,2 or 3.

I bled my oil burner hot water heater but its not firing up. It starts but then shuts down and the green light starts blinking. What do i do?

The blinking light indicates a problem. Even the number of blinks in a short period point to different sorts of problems within a Brand. It is best practice to indicate brand and model when making a query. Error codes differ between brands. It could be anything from a problem with a thermostat, filter problem, or crack in a tank. However, here is a generic diagnostic procedure: http://inspectapedia.com/heat/Oil_Burner_Wont_Run.php

Water heater heats water and then cuts off. I replaced the lower element with a guaranteed for life element. It still heats up and cuts off. There is a control box on top that allows for an easy reset. ...

1) Bad thermostat or thermistor depending on model.
Whirlpool/Craftmaster/American energy smart has control box on top, and you can order parts from Whirlpool.

2) Copy following links to help identify product.

3) Add a comment with more detailed information:
You have electric water heater.
Unknown brand, possibly energy-smart.
Unknown control box.
Cut off? Do you mean 'reset' is tripped?

4) Whirlpool energy smart requires 10 gauge wire and 30 amp breaker.
Control panel may not function with undersized electric supply.
Control panel has blinking-light errors ... if no error code then maybe the control box is bad.

2) Control box is probably bad.
There are 2 types of control boxes for older-style energy smart water heaters.
You will need model number and serial number from label on side of tank to order from Whirlpool.

3) This older-type energy smart water heater is probably discontinued by AO-Smith, American, State, Craftmaster, Reliance water heater group that makes Whirlpool and Kenmore water heaters.
New generation energy smart offers interface with home automation and/or non-existent smart grid.
Older energy smart only offered potential interface with non-existent smart grid.

Heater takes more than 1 minute to get water to kit faucet , then temp fluctuates

1) Guesses: Sounds like a bad single-handled faucet cartridge, or low water flow at faucet, or clogged water filter.
Replace faucet cartridge, clean the aerator, and/or clean sediment out of pipes below sink, and clean water filter at tankless unit each month.

2) For exact measure of problem:
Typical faucet can have 2 gallon per minute flow rate.
2 gpm flow rate means faucet fills 1 gallon container in 30 seconds. Test faucet using 1 gallon container and a cooking timer to get flow rate.
Clean aerator to improve flow rate. Compare kitchen flow rate with other faucets in home.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Low-hot-water-pressure.html

Most homes have 1/2" diameter pipe running to kitchen faucet.
100 feet of 1/2" diameter pipe holds 1.2 gallons of water. This assumes no sediment build-up inside pipes.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html

Assuming only hot is turned on: If faucet is 100 feet away from water heater, and pipe diameter is unobstructed 1/2" diameter, and faucet has 2 gallon per minute water flow, then hot water should arrive in 36 seconds.
50 feet away, and hot water should arrive in 18 seconds.

If kitchen has single handled faucet, and the handle is raised in the middle, then equal amounts of hot and cold water are drawn at same time. This doubles amount of time for hot water to arrive.

If single handle faucet has a bad cartridge, then faucet can have crossover.
Crossover means that cold water can enter the faucet even if faucet is turned to hot.
Bad single-handled faucet cartridge can delay or stop the arrival of hot water.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Crossover.html

Tankless require maintenance including cleaning combustion parts yearly, de-lime heat exchanger frequently, and clean water filter each month.
