Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My card says it is locked, how do I unlock it?

Hello there, memory cards can be locked various ways. But the most common is when the card is lo0cked such that nothing can be saved or deleted from the card. To remedy this simply bring out the card from the device and look on the edge it should have a tiny switch which is responsible for the locking or otherwise of the card to allow manipulation of card contents.
The other way would require you visiting an expert this is when a password has been set on the card and the expert would help you break it.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

Some pictures aren't showing, they're on the SD card and coming up as black thumbnails but not showing. Is there a file size limit, they're only few hundred kb

It would be nice to know what camera and model you have but, I'm going to say this about your problem. If you are viewing the pictures you have already taken on the camera viewer I would think that the black thumbnails are the pictures that were or have been deleted. I would suggest that the memory card be loaded to your computer hard Drive and the memory card then formatted. You should always format the memory card not delete. By deleting pictures there is a good possibility that you can cause holes or corrupt the card. Yes I know the manufacture gives you this handy little garbage can but really it's not there to continually delete pictures without formatting the card.

Clearing the existing pictures from the memory card

You don`t give the camera model but most cameras have a menu button press it & go through the options until you find format activating this feature will delete your card and you can then start with a new set of pictures

I have a SanDisk 4GB SDHC, and when I put it in my camera to view the pictures, it says **** is locked M.C. error. How do I unlock it?

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

I accidentally deleted my DCIM and MISC folder from my memory card ... I can't see the pictures I take .... how can I fix this mess!!!! Please help

Use software like PhotoRescue. Unless the photos were erased and then written over, they're probably still there. I used un-delete recovery software and it found my photos even after I had formatted the card and used it again to take more photos.

I know it's a late reply but other people may want to know you can find and recover deleted photos.

My memory card locked! i need to know how to unlock it

There is a small switch at the base that needs to be moved to the "Unlocked" position. It's at the side of the card.
