Netgear DG834v4 router No accesswhen downloading large files

I have a small business network with a Netgear DG834v4 router alongside a Netgear GS608 V2 8 port switch. If I am sending a large file via email/ftp then any access to the internet is denied and I can't send further email. Its as though the file takes all the bandwidth and nothing else can get in.

Anyone any ideas?

Hello,

I believe some ISPs just block any attempt to send large files by email or FTP. Thus this problem may be outside your control.

However, try a Google search on 'send large files by email' or similar. A number of companies offer 'large file' transfer services, which might help you work around this issue.

All you need to do is lower down the MTU value of the router. By default it is set to Auto with a value of 1500. To reduce the MTU, open the router's admin page and look for MTU setting. Set it to Manual Value and set the size to 1492 if you have DSL internet, and 1463 if you have Cable Internet. 1400 for general.

Forgot security code for router netgear mbr624gu

If you're talking about wireless network key. you can access your netgear router page to view your wireless password and network settings.

to log in to the router:

1. connect the pc/laptop straight from the router using an ethernet cable.

2.Open a Web browser on your computer, and connect to the router by typing
http://192.168.0.1 or www.routerlogin.com in the address field of your browser.

3.When prompted, enter the router default user name of admin, and default password of password. The Router Status screen will come up.

4. Select Wireless Settings from the main menu to display the Wireless Settings screen.

from there you'll be able to view your network key.

Note: here's the download link for your netgear user manual.

Where do i find UPnP on the the fvs318 netgear prosafe VPN firewall router, i cant find it on the main configuration menu

The netgear prosafe VPN router is a high-end component ment for business and corporate use and does not support UPnP

UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) allows programs accessing your router (limewire, utorrent, etc...) to auto configure the security settings on your router which would be harmful to a business/corp. network.

Trying to first-time install netgear model DG834v4 ADSL2+ in my iMAC with Mac OS X 10.4.11, so (according to manual) I cannot use Wizard and must do manually. Wiring is OK, I am connected to ADSL network...

Since the DG834v4 is a modem and router inbuilt they have mentioned ''Log into the ADSL2+ modem router'' .
The default IP to logon to the device is 192.168.0.1.
Just open your Safari web browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
It will ask for User Name adn Password.
The Default User ID and Passwrd is "Admin" and "Password" (enter without quotes)
On the Top Left you'll find "Basic Settings".Select it and enter the desired User name and Pwd. (Make sure to choose PPPOE or PPPOA, to find out contact Internet Service Provider)
Again on the Top left select "ADSL Settings".
Select "LLC-Based" or "VC-Based" under Multiplexing Method.

DHCP problems for wired devices on my network

It sure sounds like the switch is not passing the DCHPDISCOVER packets through to the Apple Extreme.

Is the switch a NetGear Prosafe switch, or a GS608, or a different model?

If it's a managed switch (e.g. ProSafe) then you can connect to the switch's management UI and confirm that the default uplink port is set up for the port that connects to the Apple Extreme, and that it's set to forward DHCPDISCOVER packets to that port

If it's an unmanaged switch like the GS608, then it shouldn't matter which port you connect, but if your model has one port labeled "uplink" then you should be sure to use that port to connect to tha Apple Extreme.

One last thought -- have you replaced the cable that you're using between the switch and the Apple Extreme? You could test the network by first connecting your computer to the Extreme so it gets a valid lease, then unplug it and hook up the full network (computer -> switch -> Extreme) and see if you can still ping the router.

That's a bunch of thoughts, but may not be a solution yet. If these don't address the problem, post back with the model number of your Switch, and I'll go more in-depth.

I have 3 computers connected by D-Link router. Recently I found that the router was not working so I bought a netgear GS608 router to replace it, but I can't find the cd or instruction leaflet so I have no...

The thing is that this is not a router as I know. It has to be a switch. As I know.
You still need a router to connect to the internet and do the routing. First check that.
To configure the network, you have to connect 3 PCs to your switch. Connect the switch to a router. Use router's uplink or auto sense ports. Connect both the ports with a straight through cable. If you don't have such port in the new router (when you buy, check it first), use a standard ethernet port. But you have to use a cross-over cable. Then go to router's login page and log in. Set the dhcp. It will assign adresses to your switch and PCs also. Make sure you don't have static configurations in you machines which may confuse by duplication. To use dhcp, set you machines' IP settings to obtain IP and DNS automatically. Set the default gateway IP as the router's IP. Then open a command prompt and ping the router. Then ping the switch(first do that). Then ping other PCs. After verifying the connectivity, plug the cable(internet) and your router has to have such a port. Go to WAN settings and do any other configuration. Cable internet (if its adsl instead of TV cables), you will required to provide authentication information with other settings. For cable internet instead of ADSL, the configurations might be different and I don't have experties on that (cable TV used as a medium to access the internet). So hopefully this will do your task.
If this solution is able to solve ur problem, please rate it. Thanks and Good Luck. :)

DMZ HOST IN FVS 124-G

The Netgear FVS124-G is a superb combo VPN firewall DSL/Cable small business router. Loads of features and Dual Wan to boot. I highly recommend it's use in small businesses But... Keeping the necessary firewall, you are missing another component in a properly segmented network, a VLAN switch. It is highly customizable and gives you the configurability and speed you are asking for. Look at it's features here: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/FSxxxT_GSxxxT_smartswitch_UserManual.pdf The normal network security plan is: Internet -->Firewall-->Router (or Firewall/Router)-->VLan Switch-->Individual computers or VLan subnets. Using these two components together makes a more configurable and MUCH easier to setup network than using, say, one Sonicwall, or one CISCO PIX-501-BUN-K9 (which doesn't do VLan and you have to know Pix commands) You get FREE pre-sales and FREE post-sales support from Netgear, so call them on what makes sense for your situation.
